Knowing how to do something and actually doing it successfully are not necessarily inclusive. The best defensive players of all time have been made to look foolish at times by tremendously talented offensive players.

IIRC the big play that happened in OT (Vikes) was summation of the same thing that happened 2 years ago. Not enough pressure on Cousins, WR beats his man to make a catch, safety is either out of position or late to have an effect on the play.

When the same mistakes or "issues" occur on a consistent basis on the back end ... you have to look at coaching.

The deep ball breakdowns is costing us from advancing.

Ed McCaffrey talked about this on NFL radio a couple of weeks ago. He said no DB can stay with WR if the QB is given time. Coverage will almost always break down. The safety will be out of position because the coverage has expired. There is going to be a WR, or other player, in a spot where the safety cannot make a play.

Bruce Gradkowski, also on NFL Radio, said that a WR can only be covered effectively for the first 20-25 yards down field. If the protection holds up log enough for the receiver to make it 40+ yards downfield his chances of beating the DB goes up tremendously.

In my opinion we see the breakdowns late in games because the defensive front is getting too gassed to give the necessary pressure thus hanging the defensive backfield out to dry.

At the NFL level? There is zero excuse for poor tackling form at the professional level. Form tackling is a mainstay in peewee, Jr. High, High School, College...

I was doing Oklahomas and open field form tackling drills in the 7th grade.

The Giants management is a dumpster fire right now. This was a smart move to avoid them.
