Ouch, guess the Saints will move on from Klein now, or ask for a serious redux on the contract...

But what really jumped out at me was how poorly PFF thought the DT3s performed...

And the guard situation is worse than we thought, the 2018 third and fourth round picks of Tre'Quan Smith and Rick Leonard, really hurt...

Got to address Guard in Free Agency...

While I'll agree with some of those names (PEAT, Tre, Robertson) listed, I simply don't treat PFF ratings as the gospel.

I'm not a Klein hater, however I still believe the Saints need to get younger, faster at LB. Sideline to sideline assassin. Thor's body won't hold up in a 16 + game season & as great as Demario is .. he's a year older.

Completely agree with GUARD. Joe Thuney should be a guy we consider in the off season, assuming Brandon's price tag is too steep.

Our DTs outside of Brown performed very poorly. I wasn't too shocked to see that. I think DT is our biggest need this year. Rankins doesn't look good after the injuries, Onyamata didn't make the leap during his contract year and the rest are practice squad guys.

Needs this off season in order...
DT
OG
WR
LB

Fortunately, there are a ton of free agent DTs and OGs this year. The draft should be used for WR and LB, but these other positions could easily be improved with free agent signings. Two guys I like that shouldn't break the bank...

A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Lions. Age: 25.
A'Shawn Robinson played well in 2018, but took a step backward this past season. Robinson had been dealing with a knee issue entering the year and ended up missing a handful of games, so his 2019 decline can be attributed to him being banged up.

Johnathan Hankins, NT, Raiders. Age: 28.
Johnathan Hankins' pass-rushing ability has declined in recent years, but he's still a monstrous run stuffer.

Price tag would be high for this one, but our D would be unstoppable.
Leonard Williams, DE/DT, Giants. Age: 26.
Leonard Williams failed to log a single sack in 2019, but that's not indicative of how well he played. Williams was a force in the trenches, as both a pass rusher and a run stuffer.
MarchingOn and CHA_CHING like this.

The Saints are 0-42 when running the ball less than 15 times in a game.

Ignore the 1-15, and the grade... Focus on the rankings within their position.

All are widely known as positions of weakness and judging by the rankings there are a number of better out there.

The rankings are not subjective ratings, they are statistical sorts.

IIRC big Hank was available back in 2018 but apparently his price tag was too steep or scheme "fit" for New Orleans.

He is a UFA in 2021 though.

Never should have let Davison walk to Atlanta. Nothing spectacular but steady as a rock.

I think a lot of that list is B.S. What are there parameters for these grades? Most of those guys were backups without much playing time.
Zach Line was awesome and a huge part of Murray’s success. Klein was more serviceable and was much improved in pass protection.
Easton was fine once Peat went down and was actually an upgrade.

Consider it is a list of the 15 lowest graded on the Saints. Most, if not all of these, would be graded far higher if they were on another less talented squad.

This grading system may not be perfect but neither are any of these players. We need upgrades now!
