this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Mahomes came through at the end, but there's room for growth. He'll need to get more accurate throwing from the pocket....

He overcame another double digit deficit to win. He threw two interceptions I believe and still had the Moxy to come back and win the Super bowl. Way to go Patrick. You've got a bright future. Congratulations on beating a tough 49'ers team who I thought would win.

Hats off to Mahomes for that comeback last night. That was incredible.

Here I thought Kyle Shanahan had learned, and I thought Jimmy G was better than this mainly due to how he lit us up and carved up our defense. But still, Shanahan abandoned the run when it was working for them. You're up 20-10 and get an INT, then don't run the ball. Even when up 20-17, they got 2 big runs and went back to passing. It was like Shanny wanted Jimmy G to be SB MVP so bad, he forgot his game plan. They gave Reid just enough time to figure out that defense and Mahomes made the plays in the end.

Can you guys imagine had we drafted Mahomes in 2017? We wouldn't be having any of these silly arguments right now about the future.

I've been thinking about this all day... Had we drafted Mahomes; we wouldn't be trying to convince ourselves that a 31 year old running QB is the future cause Payton thinks he's the next Steve Young. Nor would we be sitting here arguing about a 41 year old Brees and talking about his percentage completion stats that are inflated due to check downs.

There would also be no arguments for Bridgewater. Had Mahomes came in and had that 5-0 win streak, it would've been hilarious seeing the Brees loyalists try to argue that one. Mahomes wouldn't have had people yelling "throw it to Teddy!", he would've been slinging it it across the field. Mahomes would've lit it up in Payton's offense like he has in Reid's.

If we had Mahomes, those receivers who supposedly never can get open cause they have to wait on Brees' slow passes, would've been open and catching bombs.

I wish we could've drafted him. We could've had a transition like the Niners had with Montana to Young or the Packers with Favre to Rodgers. We would be OK right now even if he had to sit on the bench at 24 years old.

Shanahan: Outscored 46 - 0 in the 4th quarter and OT of two Super Bowls.

Shanahan now 0-2 in Super bowl appearances ... IIRC he was leading by double digits heading into the 4th in both.

Those will sting awhile. Maybe forever in his mind.

Another reason to hate the Buffalo Bills. They traded Lynch to Seattle when Payton was interested in bringing him to New Orleans in 2010 and they traded the 10th pick to KC when we were in position to draft Mahomes with the 11th pick in 2017.
