Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: NFL owners approve new CBA, but the players might not be in lockstep
One thing to keep in mind ... the proposed CBA was not drafted unilaterally. It was drafted by committees of owners AND players. That's why it is called a "collective" bargaining agreement. The players would be getting quite a few concessions they have been wanting for years including a greater percentage of revenues, third party consideration of punishments, elimination of marijuana testing, further reduction of "in pad" practices, increased roster and practice squad sizes, an additional IR player that can be recalled, team option fifth year FULLY guaranteed (was just injury guaranteed), etc.

Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: NFL owners approve new CBA, but the players might not be in lockstep
Not rejected. Just recommended against.
After NFL owners approved a proposed Collective Bargaining Agreement on Thursday, attention shifted to players as they need to approve any deal before it can go into place. The NFL Players Association is holding a conference call with player representatives to discuss the deal on Friday and the union’s executive committee has already held a vote about whether or not to recommend accepting the deal. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports and PFT has confirmed that the committee voted 6-5 against recommending it to the overall body of players. The committee led negotiations with owners from the union side to put together the proposed CBA. That’s just a recommendation and the 32 player reps are also expected to hold a vote Friday. That will also serve as a recommendation as the NFLPA will submit the proposal to the full membership whether or not the player reps vote in favor of the deal. If more than 50 percent of the membership votes for the proposal, the deal will be approved. |

That FACT is highlighted in the post above ... Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports and PFT has confirmed that the committee voted 6-5 against recommending it to the overall body of players. The committee led negotiations with owners from the union side to put together the proposed CBA. What part of this do you not understand? The proposal was not unilaterally drafted by the owners. That is a fact. And at no point have I suggested it is a done deal. Where have you read that? It has however reached a point where a final deal can be made. |

Re: USA Today/Saints Wire: NFL owners approve new CBA, but the players might not be in lockstep
The proposed CBA does not favor the top 5% of the individuals economically, but for players drafted in rounds two and later it would mean immediate increases in pay and added incentives according to Mike Garafolo on NFL Network. The players coming out against the proposal are all in that upper 5% of the player economic structure ... unsurprisingly. According to Garafolo the union has been negotiating on behalf of that "rank and file" which make up that other 95%.
