The last punter the Saints regretted cutting was the original Ron Widby!

a 4th round draft choice of the Saints He signed for a $50,000 bonus, who released him in August when he couldn't beat rookie undrafted free agent Tom McNeill.

In 1968, he became the starting punter and finished tied for fifth in the league with a 40.9-yard average. He had a franchise and a NFL record, with an 84-yard punt against his former team the Saints (also had a 56-yard punt in the same game) and set a second club mark by averaging 53.4 yards per punt.

In 1969, he voluntarily gave his #12 jersey to future hall of famer Roger Staubach, who had resigned his naval commission to join the Cowboys. He finished second in the league with a 43.3-yard average.

In 1970, he was second in the NFC with a 41.3-yard average. He also set a Super Bowl record with nine punt attempts, while playing against the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V.

In 1971, he was third in the NFC with a 41.6-yard average. He played in Super Bowl VI and became the second Cowboys punter to be named to the Pro Bowl (Sam Baker was the first).

Sorry Kwon, Trey, Ryan and Marshon we couldn't do a deal with you because we didn't want to regret cutting Morestead. We had to trade Kamara and CGM in order to pay his $15,345.00 salary. No we don't expect to win many games but Thomas's leg will earn it's money!! We brought back Billy Joe Hobert at 50 to play QB. Now we have the oldest starting QB in NFL history!!!

I'd much rather have Billy Joe Tolliver. Good guy, and QB of my very own Shreveport Pirates in the CFL. Made sure to come up and talk to my son (also a redhead) at practice one day.

Its great to have a great punter and kicker when you have the cap space but its always a area worth looking into making a move.

Hoping Lutz sorts out whatever his issue was during the offseason, just didn't seem right for the second half last year. They can save 3.6ml this season with a post June 1st cut. Going to need to beat out the competition this year.



Hate saying it but a big year for Cam Jordan aswell. 2022 his Cap is over 19ml and a post June 1st cut frees up 14ml of that.

I think you mistook my statement. What I wanted to say was that he had an injury this year which led him to a rough start. Morestead mentioned in an interview that it was an injury plus the dedication to kick high short kicks to minimize the returns. It's apparently the new special teams train of thought.

I realize that we likely already have his replacement on the roster who now has a season to pick up some good coaching tips. It's just business. I get that. My hope is that he goes to an AFC team and has a long illustrious career booming puts. Every time I saw him at training camp he always took time to talk to me and my twin brother about rugby and Saints. :heart:

Let me tell you guys, that Super Bowl right there... that’s why you invest at OL and speed at LB. Taking Ruiz last year when it “wasn’t a need”... Ireland knows you can never go wrong taking a first round talent OL in the draft (see Ryan Ramczyk.)

Now we just need to start taking those talented SEC LB’s highly too.
