As he was listed most recently. It is for payment reasons. They agreed to a RB contract level as opposed to a WR level which is higher. Makes sense.

Might also have something to do with Montgomery having poor hands, and that's why he's playing RB...

He does offer something in the return game, though...

Poor hands? PFR says he has a 73.6% career catch rate. That's not bad. By comparison Todd Gurley's career catch rate is 72.4% and I've never heard anyone say he has poor hands.

Montgomery really only had one bad receiving year and that was when he played for Baltimore. His catch % was 62.5 that season. The team rate was only 60%.

In his first season before he played RB he had a 78.9% rate. That's very good. I think it would be hard to say he has "poor hands."

Utah, he was moved from WR to RB (see scouting report) because of his hands; sure you'd agree it's different catching lobs out of the backfield vs darts downfield in coverage...

According to ProFootball Reference, since joining the league, he's not even in the top 200 on catch rate for RBs...

That was the point I was making about his position designation; and one of the pluses of his addition to the roster is that he'd been a solid return guy except for one gaffe Packers fans couldn't forget...

Yes, that's what I remember too. GB was out of RBs and Montgomery was pressed into service.

That's why I pointed out his catch rate before being moved to RB. 78% is crazy good for a WR.

I'm not saying he's the best receiving back in the league but to say he has "poor hands" is quite a stretch.
