A Mecole Hardman type player. Anyone with blazing speed and can catch half decent.

Sanders can't do that. Too old and beat up. He never was a decent WR anyway. We'll get somebody else and Sanders will get beat out in camp.

7/157/1

That was against us last year. Far from beat up. Who's going to pass him ? Trequan?

I can't agree with any of this, man. Sanders has been MORE than decent throughout his career, and at times has been a star, when he's had a reliable QB to throw to him.

And did you see how his production immediately went up when he went to the 67ers, despite having to learn a new offense? Jimmy Garoppolo is about as average as it gets, but even he looked like a hall of famer, compared to the QB's in Denver. His numbers dipped at the very end of the year, when Garoppolo started tanking. He'll have a competent QB here.

The last point, is I don't think getting a speed guy matters as long as Brees is still the QB. He's proven he can't throw the deep ball anymore, other than the occasional 35 yard heave that flutters it's way out there. It is strategically essential to have great route runners who can get open in the intermediate areas and make tough catches when needed, with Brees at the helm. Sanders qualifies, and we already know Thomas does.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

What good is a player with blazing speed when your QB can’t take the top off the defense? We’ve had Ginn for years now and Brees can’t utilize his most important skill set. Sure, you needs a flanker who can run to keep the defense honest, but what Brees needed was more route runners who can get open underneath. Plus, what’s stopping us from going WR first round? Plenty mocks have us going Justin Jefferson at 24. As far as Sanders getting beat out in camp...it’s like you’ve never seen that guy play before. He’s an extremely savvy and talent wide receiver who never had to rely on elite athleticism to get open.

A point that simply cannot be igored anymore. Safeties don't have respect the deeeep ball because he can't get it there. They can cheat up a bit and focus on the intermediate routes.

The difference may only be about 10 yards or so, but for DB's thats a lot of territiory they don't have to worry about.

Exactly. It allows a DB to play really aggressively and jump underneath routes.

Agreed

and then Sean's draws up a lateral from Drew and Taysom throwing a 50 yard bomb behind the defense

we lost the Minnesota game with Drew seeing something long to end the half and laying it up for an easy INT.

You mean Taysom's 7th career complete regular season pass?

I imagine they will find someone in the draft to fill that role and he will be used mostly when Taysom is in. No use breaking the bank for a WR who will only be an actual target for only about 20% of the snaps (assuming that’s how they use Hill.)
