Part of the trade off on making the deal was to give the players an extra bye week. That means the actual season will be 19 weeks instead of the current 17. They are also eliminating one of the preseason games, thus netting out to the entire season, including preseason, being one week longer.

This is a win/win for fans as we now get two more weeks of real football AND one less meaningless preseason game!

Well, that's just great!

The New Orleans Saints are notorious for our slow starts after the bye week. Lately we seem to always come back very flat footed, sluggish, incohesive, and it takes way too much time to get our rhythm back. I can only imagine how much tougher it will be keep the team cohesive with two bye weeks. I guess that's on Payton to fix. He is a good motivator but everyone's message eventually gets stale. Nonetheless, I believe that he will pull out every nuance of coaching that he has this year.
