Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal
I was curious so I researched further. Nick Underhill has a great article out today in which he examines every single interception Winston threw in the 2019 season.
https://neworleans.football/breaking...ds-to-improve/ I won't share it all. Nick's site requires a subscription and he lives off the money. But here's a sample: Jameis Winston can be an outstanding quarterback. There have been moments and games throughout his career where he looks the part, the prodigious talent who was once a first-overall draft pick. There have been times when he lived up to the Peyton Manning comparisons he drew coming out of Florida State, and there were probably times when Tampa Bay, at least early on, believed he would be the backbone of the franchise. But those moments never seemed to last more than a moment, because the bad version of Winston, the one who loses games for his team, always showed up to derail his progress. Some things happened in Tampa Bay last season that were not entirely his fault, but there is a reason no one wants him to start. To better understand why that is happening, and what led him to New Orleans’ doorstep, I decided to watch Winston’s worst moments. I know he has ridiculous talent — everyone does – but he is signing with the Saints because he has significant issues and needs help. I wanted to see those issues for myself and gain an understanding of what Winston might be focusing on during the next year. So, I decided to breakdown all 30 of his interceptions last year to help paint a picture. Nick goes on to state Winston threw 14 INTs under pressure and saw that pressure on 30% of his drop backs (o line). For comparison, Brees saw pressure 18% of drop backs. I would highly recommend subscribing. Nick's content has been the best of his peers for years now. |

It's not just picks. Last 3 years he fumbled 34 times.

Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal
So Winston's base salary is 1.1M for the season?
That is a bargain if you'll ever see one with zero risk. Seems like a guy who wants to get better (he's only 26) at his craft, sit behind the best in the biz & become a starter again. Not saying it's in New Orleans but you never know. That says a lot of about his commitment at QB. Humbling. |

Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal
I still want to know why people are certain Hill has done enough and deserves a shot.
He will be 31 next season, his first as starter(probably) So far 13 pass attempts 6 completed 46.2 completion percentage 119 yards 0 TDs 1 Interception 2 Sacks 1 lost fumble I mean we also have Emmanuel Sanders on the rosters 3 pass attempts 3 complete 78 yards 2 TDs |

Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal
I was grocery shopping today and my check out clerk asked me what I thought about Winston. I didn't know if he liked him or not so I simply said he threw for over 5,000 yards and Payton is a good coach. I also said he threw too many interceptions to be comfortable with him now. I couldn't help but mention that I will always call him crab legs.
Then he asked me about Cam Newton. I rolled my eyes and said someone will sign him. |

Re: Jameis Winston 1 yr deal
Over at the Bucs' forums they are wondering why he wouldn't just sign a similar contract with them and apprentice under Brady - if he just wanted to learn from a future HoF QB.
What they are missing is that Brady and Brees seem to have a very different perspective to their understudies. As an example, Brady reportedly didn't do anything for Jimmy G and in fact pressured the FO to get rid of him. Also, Winston probably didn't see his working relationship with Arians to be as beneficial for his future as working with SP. |
