Do you have children? Sometimes what they have difficulty saying what they mean; the only way to know is to listen, ask questions, and listen to the answers. Emotional adults can be the same way.

I grew up being able to run through the streets of my town safely (except for my own stupid ideas) as young as 8... My daughters aren't safe going to the end of the block alone.
