The cut in preseason games is indirectly connected to the virus. It seems the NFL is just opening up more practice time, and I guess less exposure, in the preseason.
However, if regular season games are cut down it'll be directly because of the virus. We'll see if hundreds of people can be in close contact for several hours week after week and continue to dodge the bullet. SFIAH |

There has been movement to cut back the number of preseason games well before there ever was a COVID-19. It would have probably happened next year anyway with the beginning of the 17 week seasons. That said, this was being tossed around on NFL Radio a month ago as a way to open up more practice time, as you mentioned, due to the loss of the OTA's. I really don't remember anyone banging the drum to play all four.
