Is Winston already surpassing Taysom Hill?

I can't get around it. If Winston ends up somehow being the Saints QB, I'm going to play more golf on Sundays. I will hope they win more Super Bowls. I will always be a fan of the team. I've cheered for Saints QB's with FAR less talent. But, I could never root for he or Cam being under center with the Saints.

He’s way better than Hill.

As a quarterback, I agree 100% But Hill is a guy that teams have to account for wherever he may be on the field no matter what.

I agree. That's why he'll not be successful at QB. Winston is far more talented at that lone position, while Hill may be more valuable as the all round weapon he has demonstrated.

With actual coaching I believe that can be addressed.

Well, I am a Saints fan first and foremost. When it comes down to it I really don't care who it is on the field as long as they are doing their best to help us win. But, also, I am an NFL fan and watch every game I can and will continue. There are players I dislike for one reason or another, but that distaste doesn't interfere with my enjoyment of the game.

I like Hill. Huge fan. However, I truly believe Winston is the heir apparent to Drew Brees and that you may see him as early as this season. Not because he’ll beat Brees out. Even if he was clearly outperforming Brees in camp the organization has to start Brees. It’s only right they let him end his career with him leaving it all on the field.

I think you may seem Jameis because I’m not sure Brees can stay healthy for a full season anymore. He’s been getting dinged up every year. I’m fully comfortable with Winston at QB. I think you’ll see a much improved player once he gets into the Saints system. I trust the organization on that side of the ball.

I think that Winston will be the Saints starting QB next year. There's better coaching and leadership with the Saints than there was with the Bucs. Arians told Jameis to chuck it. "No risk it no biscuit" is Arians mantra. There's madness to his methods rather than methods to his madness.

Add that to his Eye surgery and a seemingly new approach to life, I could see Winston in New Orleans for many more years.

OMG the former #1 pick is the more talented QB than the undrafted read option QB... shocking! Of course Jameis is better. Dude can be a legitimate star with Payton’s coaching and the weapons we have. I don’t really like Jameis because he’s corny AF but I’m smart enough to see that he could be an excellent heir apparent.

I feel the same. It took a while to get the stench of Tampa out of my nostrils but it was a killer signing. Either way we have a Qb that can keep us competitive after Drew. With our weapons Hill could get it done short term but Winston is the obvious long term answer.
I think we have seen the last of Drew anyway.

I wouldn't count Brees out so soon. I still cannot imagine him leaving the game before Brady. No way. And I certainly don't expect Brady to quit right now.

Winston just isn't very bright. He's made bad decisions his whole life. You can't fix stupid! You might cut down on the interceptions but you just can't fix stupid!

Holy thirst trap, Batman. And brains with a love football to boot. (I'm referencing Kay Adams, to be clear.)

Anyway... Since the Saints took a flyer on Jameis I've been of the mind that the Saints would find a way to keep him for more than the year in which they signed him. I'm still hopeful that they'll kick the tires on Rosen and draft a QB early in the draft this year.

+1.

I hope the Saints draft a QB in 2021. Something I thought we would do 2 years ago. At the moment, all we have is Taysom and nothing behind him. We'll see what happens on Jameis though.

Sean says a lot.

BTW, I'd pass on Rosen. Why is a former 1st rounder bouncing around the leauge and on his 4th team in 3 seasons? IMO he's a career back up.

Winston is our best option going into next year. I would like to see him come back on a two year cap friendly contract that’s fair for both parties. He’s got more of an upside than Hill and he’s had a year to get the Tampa stank off him. I also think Hills injury could be a lot worse than advertised. I have it from a personal source that he was done for the season but don’t know how bad it was.

Don’t read into this to much but Payton was high on Winston on the radio today. He said Winston is a smart guy and he came to New Orleans not just to be a good QB but a Great QB , he asked Payton if he would be the #2 QB behind Brees and he said no it was Tysom’s job to lose. But he saw enough with Winston that he wants to work on keeping him in Nola

If he plays he won’t play here . The players don’t seem to want to play for him anymore. Sean probably knows it’s time to move on if he wants the younger players to buy into a system that makes us competitive long term. I think they’ve had enough of the Drew Brees show.

Re: Is Winston already surpassing Taysom Hill?

I'm hoping that Winston seeing better will help him. He didn't wear his contact lenses when playing. We may have a diamond that everyone else thinks is an ordinary rock. If he quit throwing INTs he'd be amazing.

Re: Is Winston already surpassing Taysom Hill?

Remaining consistent... I have questioned Winstons decision making because of 30 interceptions in a single season, that said Hill had 11 fumbles in a single season. so on ball security it is a wash for me.

Winston hands down is the better pure pocket passer.

Hill seems to make for a more dynamic offense but this isn't college football and when you take into account the loss of ball security, and his missing games every season due to injury, you cant consistently run the offense where you benefit from his upside.

Winston will be our next QB but he either wont last long or will fail miserably due to all the people that will get cut to sign him.

We should probably be discussing who the QB will be in 2022.:bng:

There's a 50% chance of one of those happening!!!!!

Not sure where the hell you got that idea. Here's a quote from Demario Davis that just came out today ...

Demario Davis: Saints will come back from latest playoff heartbreak, 'sure hope' Drew Brees does, too

If Davis had his way, Brees would return for one more round.

"I hope so. I sure hope so," he said when asked about whether Brees could come back for another season. "I would feel much better if I could guarantee that he was. But I guess the only way I could be able to guarantee (a comeback) was if one of y'all said something reckless, like, 'he's finished,' or something, then I could guarantee he's coming back. But I sure hope so."

If Luck does end up making a comeback, that is a huge spot filled and there'll be plenty of QB's to go around. We probably won't have a problem retaining Winston if this is how it plays out and we indeed want to keep Winston.

Andrew Luck? He's not returning to the NFL.

He retired for a reason.

Even if Andrew Luck did return to the NFL, I often don't understand the love. He seemed like a great guy sure, but he had 171 touchdowns vs 127 ints / fumbles combined.

Guy was a turnover machine.

Don't even remotely see Luck returning to the NFL let alone finding his way down to New Orleans. Pretty much next subject...

To be fair, I'm under the understanding that the Colts had a terrible pass protecting O-line when Luck played, which is why he often took a beating and hence retired early.

Just like Peyton Manning was? First 5 years in the league 100 interceptions.
Just like Brett Favre was? First 5 years as a starter ..........77 inteceptions.
Just like Dan Fouts was? First 5 years..............................89 interceptions.
Just Like Drew Brees was First 5 years as a starter............64 interceptions
Just Like Tom Brady was First 5 years as a starter.............68 interceptions

Remind me how many Victorious Super Bowl Rings Favre has? What about Fouts?

Re: Is Winston already surpassing Taysom Hill?

We have 2 guys on the roster that I feel can be NFL starters. Barring a trade for someone we know will work out, I think we just let the situation resolve itself and quit thinking about it too much. I think from Payton's vantage point, both guys could be the starter next year. They'll both get a lot more work in training camp than they normally would have with Brees being there. By the start of the season, Payton will have a pretty strong opinion. If neither work out, then there's the draft.
