Now this is going to be a major blow. ;) Seriously, Wick's decision was a no-brainer. He wasn't going to make the roster anyway and now he's guaranteed $350K. Sweet deal.

New Orleans Saints tight end Cole Wick has opted out of the upcoming 2020 season because of his asthma, a source confirmed to The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate on Tuesday.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news, while Yahoo Sports' Eric Edholm was the first to report the reason behind Wick's opt out.

Wick is the first known Saints player to opt out of the 2020 season out of coronavirus concerns. Players have until Aug. 3 to opt out if they so choose. Players who elect to sit out the 2020 season cannot opt back in at any point.

Because Wick is opting out because of a medical condition, he can earn $350,000 and an accrued season for 2020. Players who willingly opt out without a medical condition can earn a $150,000 salary advance, but will not accrue an earned season.

The Saints signed Wick to the practice squad during Week 17 on Dec. 27 after they waived tight end Jerell Adams.

Wick has been in the NFL since 2016 after finishing his collegiate career at FCS Incarnate Word. The fifth-year tight end played for the Detroit Lions as a rookie, suiting up in six games and catching two passes for 18 yards.

He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 2017-18, playing in five games during the 2018 season.

Since then, he's been a member of the Tennessee Titans (2018) and the Oakland Raiders (2019).

WHO?

As if they were going to even make the team. Maybe that's why they did it.

Okay, since you decided to share a segment of a private message I sent you on January 30 of this year perhaps I should share it in its entirety exactly as typed.

"I know you post a large percentage of comments meant to be sarcastic or humorous. Some are and some miss the target. I'll give you that for trying. But I just wanted to point out that a very large percentage of visitors to this site are coming here solely for information, not entertainment. Also, a large percentage are gullible in what they read is fact ... sadly. Your humor is undoubtedly taken as news to the hundreds of people that visit this site and never post. I know you love the Saints as much as I. The world is so negative right now. I don't see how cultivating that environment is positive. I both love and hate the internet because it both shares knowledge and shares the opposite just as quickly.

Just wanted to let you know how I feel. By the way, my name is Larry and I love my Saints and my family."

I guess this "vicious" attack triggered your six month long barrage of trolling my posts with inane garbage. You sir, need help.

Total opt outs to date are now 31 with most still being players were most likely not to make the final roster. There have been a few high risk starters, however.

Re: Source: Cole Wick to skip Saints season, is first known player on team to opt out

The final count for opt outs is 67 of the original 2880 players on the 32 90 man rosters. That is 2.3% of total pre-cut players. Like the two TE's that opted out from the Saints over half of those players were not going to make a 53 man roster anyway. No big deal.

Any bets on how many of those 67 players end up contracting COVID-19? With all of the testing and multi-layered protocols in place in the NFL they are far more likely to pick it up elsewhere. And spread it.
