My guess would be the most common use among athletes ... disc herniation. It can cause pain, but isn't usually debilitating. Many people have it for periods of time thinking they've pulled a muscle or something. They heal easily with the help of inflammatory medications like NSAIDS or steroids. An epidural simply pinpoints the medication rather than a general oral delivery. They are extremely minor procedures and literally take less than two minutes. Like I said, I've had around twenty of them myself. I'd be surprised if a decent percentage of the entire roster doesn't have at least one before or during the season.

Now, after Gayle Benson visited practice, Sean Payton says they are actively negotiating an extension. I think they shopped him, nobody wants a trade right now, and Kamara realized that the Saints are his best bet to get "McCaffery" money next season if he performs uninjured this season.

Kamara practiced on Wednesday, which he reportedly hadn’t been doing due to an injury — or an “injury.” Coach Sean Payton confirmed that player and team currently are trying to work out an extension.

Actually, stopping off at Ben and Jerry's is a decent analogy, gosaints1. About a month ago I asked my doctor during my latest follow-up for an ESI to help with some headaches I knew were coming from my stenosis and I was in the next morning at 7:30 and on with my daily routine an hour later. Most of the time is spent waiting your turn. He probably does a dozen or more an hour.

Of course no one wants to trade a 1st rounder for a player who is wanting a large contract. I seriously doubt they "shopped" him though, Halo. I don't doubt they received a few calls, however. Other teams are going to do their own due diligence and ask.

His agent said he has been in the facility every day (getting his required COVID-19 tests) and hasn't been holding out. Having the ESI would explain the absence. Something else to consider is if you are getting close to making a deal what one thing could blow that deal out of the water? An injury in practice. It is actually quite common for an agent to hold their player out of practice during negotiations for this very reason.

Re: Alvin Kamara Saints Contract Discussion

Kamara's agent, Bilbo: Okay, Al. We're getting close but I don't want to give in yet. You know that procedure the doc said would relieve that minor pain?

Kamara: Yeah. Why?

Bilbo: Well if we get that done now we could try to use that as an excuse to avoid getting dinged in case we have to miss five days of practice.

Kamara: Why do I need to miss practice?

Bilbo: If you get hurt before I get this deal done we're **** out of luck.

Kamara: Gotcha, Boss.

Patriots in this situation would be close to a sweet trade setting them up for a couple years. No RB in their system is ever getting a big payday. Never.

We are keeping him but seriously, would you rather create a SB victories making machine or Kamara. Hard for people with high emotions to accept that fact but I am the devil..meh. I'm not the devil though. I want SB victories.

I think they're talking about an extension or incentives for this season. I'd rather not take an even larger cap hit this season trying to pay him. I think other teams don't want to trade either.

The former is what Kamara had and is to combat inflammation. The second is what can be given before surgery or childbirth to completely mask pain. I know people that have had one for an acute condition and never needed another. Myself, I have had close to twenty of them and they work quite well for my needs. But I have a chronic cervical condition.

Well, according to Dr. Chao the profootball doc. If it was an epidural there should be a concern. Here's his tweet on it.

Not sure what to believe.
Epidural/SI joint/stomach bug/contract?
However, epidural is a significant concern.
Sacroiliac (SI) joint injection is completely different and not nearly as worrisome.

You can worry about what you wish, I suppose. I just know that I can function quite well without them and I only get them because they are very simple and effective for minor acute pain control. Works quicker and lasts longer than aspirin or Aleve. Now, I would be more concerned if it was for something along the lines of an RFA (Radio Frequency Ablation). I get those twice a year in the facet joints and they relieve chronic pain caused by arthritis or bone spurs.

He played dirt cheap on his first deal and deserves a raise. He seriously outperformed his rookie contract. Pay the man. He earned it. Just make sure that we have money to keep the rest of the players we want to re-sign.

Hey, JP! I think you ought to drop Kamara in the B&G fantasy league because of that severe back injury. Word is that he's going to experience paralysis at any moment. ;)

Well, we did say we were only going to have one Saint on Offense and one Saint on Defense and I've already got Marshon and @CantGuardMike...

Know the protests have some bummed, but we need a roll call and to conduct business...

Underhill, Mirfiq, Henderson all say that Clowney signing with the Saints is a very real possibility. I think the Saints have a good front already but man, Clowney would make the front seven unbelievable.

I don't know how Loomis could pull it off but if any GM could do it it's him.

Yes we do. I posted that in the league thread. I have Brees and Demario for my two Saints keepers.

Good, short, article, but it touches on a number of other statistics that support Kamara's value, but also offers concrete criticism when comparing production to McCaffrey...

Yep, I do not get the negativity in some of the replies. There is a ton of nuance missing in direct comparisons; in the McCaffrey vs. Kamara , Kamara beats McCaffery in statistics that aren't impacted by play choice and coaching style.. and does it with an injured 2019.

McCaffery didn't have to split time with Ingram or Murry because that's is the coaches style. There are different teams that use RBs in very different ways and as you can see below, with very different outcomes.
2017-2019
Panthers 23W - 25L (Play offs in 2017 beat by Saints)
Saints 37 W - 11L (Play offs every year with Kamara)

I can not see a way to state with reasonable certainty that if McCaffery were in a Saints jersey for the last 3 years he would have out performed Kamara. Kamara's numbers represent his value to the team and this offense which is clear in the advanced stats.

McCaffery didn't have to run behind Peat last year either.

jeanpierre 09-13-2020 10:00 AM

Re: Alvin Kamara Saints Contract Discussion

There's essentially three camps on Kamara's New Contract...

There are those who feel he's essential to the success of this team, that he carries a large load of the offense, and that he should be paid accordingly...

There are those who feel he's an oft-injured, supporting cast running back, and because of that RB role, the Saints shouldn't commit that much money and that other players should take priority needing extensions...

Then there's that large group somewhere in between...

For me, he's more than earned a generous payday through his documented dedication and hard work...

But I believe it's fair to question the wisdom of committing such a large portion of the salary cap to a player who's not shown in a full season he can carry the load as a feature back; he was best in a tandem role...
