Re: Saints adding 'End Racism' to end zones this year
From the article linked ...
"It is likely that multiple factors played into the drop, including social justice messages, which have been present, while audience sizes have reduced across all sports in recent months. An uncompetitive game a 34-20 Chiefs win, during which they led by 24 in the fourth quarter likely played a role. So too did unusual competition from an unprecedented sports calendar, which saw the NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, MLB regular season, U.S. Open and college football all take place Thursday night." Last year's opener had only MLB as a sports competitor. I have a high school friend that told me her and her whole family (two grown daughters and their families) would have had the NFL game on normally, but they are huge US Open fans and never miss it. She had posted on Facebook their disappointment that Serena had lost so I broached the subject. I also knew they are all NFL fans. Lot's of fans of other sports automatically tune into the NFL when their seasons are over. The NBA, NHL and the US Open have never been being broadcast during a televised NFL game. COVID has created a strange dynamic. That said, the NFL audience still dawrfed all the other televised sports numbers combined. No wonder the ad revenues for the game were up over 10% from 2019's opener. |

Imagine a time when so much effort isn't required for equality.

I don't see any evidence at all that "the movement" the NFL is supporting and telling us we must support without thought is about equality.
It's not even about protesting unjustified force by law enforcement. The Lanacaster riots demonstrate that very clearly. You are dealing with people who have only one explanation for why things happen, and they trot that explanation out for everything. They do so despite any and all evidence to the contrary. Painting end zones to support "the movement" is not going to resolve anything because the movement is not seeking a resolution. |

NFL is skimming over their own rich heritage of racism. They just skipped all of that and pointed at recent police brutality of white police. Sad everyone is giving the NFL a free pass because they had a big part in sports systemic racism. It was one of the most racist sports of all time.

Imagine a time when people accomplish goals in spite of adversity. A time when character and innovation are built by overcoming obstacles.
If there were less energy spent imagining and more time developing a way.... just maybe some people might find more opportunity. Ill never understand people that shy away from effort and work. |
