I've mentioned this before, but you can't say never. The NFL is littered with players who have experienced injuries early in their careers and have gone on to have outstanding careers. He has suffered a turf toe, lis franc and now something that we have no idea of the severity with his elbow. Totally unrelated. Yet you can be sure he'll "never, ever be healthy"?

Um, okay. Would you mind passing on the winner of the Queen's Stake at Kentucky Downs this weekend since you've got that crystal ball all shined up?

The best predictor of future behavior or performance is past behavior or performance. Is it a dogmatic eventuality? Nope, not even close, but those that question repeated injuries, regardless of whether the injuries are related, are not unwise, imho.

AND for the record, as my blog from a year ago will attest, I've never disliked Davenport, I just disliked the pick; it was foolish bravado putting that much into that young an unproven, tested player...

The Ruiz injury is awful and will delay, hopefully not derail, his development and acclimation to the NFL, Saints' offensive line...

Exactly. I would love to know who these injured players are that are “littered” around the NFL after missing significant time their first 3 years. There are a few like Ingram but these players are in the minority. Especially first rounders.

No, the Saints don't have exclusivity on oft-injured players; Browns, Jets, and Dolphins have had stretches where their No. 1's never played, or played for long, their rookie years...

Davenport will be injury prone until he's no longer injury prone.

Wonder how patient coach will be with him ... we all know Sean P has limited patience with injured players. Just ask Keenan Lewis, Bryd and Breaux.
Actually, I thought Payton/Loomis were very patient with Byrd - too patient...

Lewis injury gave me pause about the Saints' partnership with Ochsner, though Westbank's public whining turned me off; however, I felt remorse judging Westbank after Breaux's injury, details were reported...

Then there's the incompetence that came to light with the Nick Fairley Affair; and after the year I've had losing all my family in one year, I'm not exactly a big fan of Ochsner...

Aren’t all college players “unproven” though? Heck, the number of “proven” college players that litter practice squads today or are even without an NFL job are legion.

The Saints clearly targeted a very specific person and they made the necessary trades in order to make that player a starter here. I understand the arguments that it was expensive, and I’ll even stipulate that as of right now it is proving to have been an unwise move. That being said, I like the aggressiveness instead of staying put at a static drafting point and accepting what falls to us.

On the bright side, no one should be complaining now of how many offensive linemen we kept this year, nor that we kept Nick Easton's expensive contract...

Small school, level of competition, untested, only one year of remarkable play, and you would sink not one, but two first round picks in that player?

If he'd played in the SEC or ACC or even the Big 10, facing Professional Talent every week, and had two years of that production, then you'd have better film, data to back that decision...

And regarding the level of play, that'd be film with real test of physicality and endurance and durability...
