Saints vs Packers

I feel like a big part of the Saints offensive game plan should be to pound the Packers run defense with the combo of Kamara & Murray running the ball...a lot. The Packers D against the run is suspect and this would take some pressure off Brees and the Michael Thomas-less WR corps

What do y'all in the B&G Universe think:question: Would love to hear others' thoughts!!!

I'd like to hear about a pass that went further then 7 or 8 yards in the air.

Re: Saints vs Packers

Without MT on the field, the ground game would be the best plan of attack.
Once their D is softened up a bit then Drew can see which one of his receivers is gonna catch some balls.

Re: Saints vs Packers

Packers LB’s are terrible. Pound the rock and run routes out of the backfield all day. Forget passing to WR’s altogether.

Defensively, they don’t have Davante Adams... which means Lattimore will get burned by a backup because he doesn’t care. Rodgers doesn’t throw to his TE’s so as long as we continue to be great against the run we’ll be fine.

Totally prepared to accept getting beat the phuck down. This team is average at best. No offense. Can't win with the Defense on the field that long. We need a QB that is more of a running threat and can chunk deep with power. We do not have it.

Taysom and Winston don't count?

While I like the concept, it simply isn’t a Payton “thing”.....he’s more of a, hey guys hold my beer and watch what I can do with all my toys....dedication to a run game, whether it is working or not is a concept he can’t seem to grasp. With arguably one of the top O lines in the league....he simply won’t commit to the run game for 60 minutes, hell for even a half.

Re: Saints vs Packers

Cover 2 never use to be safe against Drew because he would just attack the seams and dismantle it.

Now however, Cover 2 or Single high is completely fine against Brees because he can't attack teams deep and it means they can committ all this extra defensive help to the primary receiver - Kamara out of the backfield.

You got it right Bobdog he is Sean Payton and there is no rhyme or reason to how he sees a game.
Usually you can tell when the camera zooms in on him he has that Fungo look in his eyes.
I will say that he was more creative when he is hopped up on wads of Juicy Fruit.

Yup, unfortunately this team is controlled by Paytons ego. If he wants to give up on the run and put the ball in the air, that's what's going to happen. Even if the Raiders couldn't stop the run.

His ego will doom this team this year. Take what the defense gives you. Don’t force stuff just cause you think you won’t be heralded as a offensive genius no more

Precisely, in years past, getting away from the run wasnt ideal but we got by because the offense was so dangerous and could explode for a big play at any time.

That ain't happening anymore unless Taysom comes in.

I agree, he’s stuck in yesteryear. When we went to a ball control offense it worked really well with Teddy. He needs to do that with Drew. I know it’s not flashy but it works and that’s what matters. Possess the ball for long drives, wear down their defense, while keeping ours fresh. Is a recipe for success.

Agreed..., but I recall my personal friends, yes me also lol, complained about Teddy TG’s inability to push the ball vertically also. Fair or not, the same criticisms leveled now against both the scheme and QB#9 were thrown at that five game spat DB#9 was out.

Difference between then and now, imho, is the team came together and played lights out football. It was very good team play at that time that carried the day..., not the scheme..., and not the QB. The team, as a whole, just refused to quit. Good “team” then, very good, imvho.

As both should be criticized since it isn’t working but at least when teddy did throw long our receivers didn’t have to stop and wait for the ball that was coming pony express from Drew. Was it the strongest no but had more zip on it than Drew.

It looks like the Saints bought into their hype. They don't have the advantage because we don't have that killer attitude.

Re: Saints vs Packers

Does anyone here realize that we are only two games into a season with no off-season activities at all and having lost our top offensive weapon for a couple of games and still up one full game in our division?

Then again, I can go back to our post second game threads from the past three years and read the same sort of doom and gloom posts as I see above and by many of the same members. :D I said the same thing back then that I'm saying now.

Just relax and wait and see. We'll challenge for the #1 seed after winning our forth straight NFC South title. The defense will gel. The offense will click.

I'm still optimistic but we sure don't look like contenders on the field.

And how large a sample have we seen? You can expect the first several games by all teams to be basically preseason even more than the last few years with the practice cutbacks via the CBA's. How many others games have you seen? I've seen much of most. There's not many teams looking like contenders yet.

That would be great and all and I agree but as long as Payton is coach we will abandon the run.
It’s funny because I heard him in an interview talking about how dangerous GB is because they have balance and how the RB is the QBs best friend.

I agree! We need to go back to the Ditka days and totally commit to the run. Damn. Those were the good old days of the Saints. That's when things were good.

I only watch the Saints and will watch the competition so I'm knowledgeable about our opponents. Nonetheless, from what I've read they are playing crisply like we thought we were going to be before we imploded. 2-0 vs 1-1 team that barely squeaked by doesn't inspire confidence. Don't get me wrong I still believe and I'm optimistic but I'm not as optimistic as I was listening to the media hype us up.

There is no doubt that we look sloppy and sluggish.

Meanwhile Trubisky has looked bad today. I approve of the benching as well.

Ryan Pace is definitely on the hot seat.
