Could be. Either that way it’s dumb.

Update: NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that Thomas punched second-year safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
This was confirmed by Nick Underhill for NewOrleans.Football, who reported that Thomas and Gardner-Johnson were also involved in a fight early last season. Both players got physical at an Aug. 20 training camp practice.

IMO this is conditionally accepted in training camp (light fires!) not in regular season practice.

This a 2-2 team. They need a fire lit.

Not a single thing I just pointed out was an assumption. These are facts. As usual, you're dead wrong, and can't admit it. Have a nice day.

I'm sure there is more to this story than just a fight at practice.

Plus one. There likely were some borderline, non addressable behavour transgressions, where Sean wasn't happy with what he was seeing and this conflict presented an opportunity for a teachable moment...

At least that's what I expect the language around this incident to reflect...

Let’s see how MT responses, if you hear mumbling on he wants to be traded. Then we got ourselves a pure D I V A, if he learns from this we have a TEAM first all pro back

Sports Illustrated really needs somebody competent to run the Saints Fandom page - guess you get for what you pay...

he is ruled him out? When you're compensated, you should be better than this...

Seems like this has been a feud thats been going on since last season.

Yeah, I'm sure that's what's gonna do it...a WR losing his cool at his own teammate in practice

What team have you played for where no fights happened?

How we go from millennials being soft and crying about everything to people acting like a fight at practice is the worse thing to ever happen is beyond me.

Again, that's training camp fuel, not regular season stuff. Him getting suspended obviously shows Sean didn't think it was a good thing. When is the last time we had a disciplinary benching? I can't remember one, and it's our best offensive weapon? That should tell you something.

Sean Payton was a disciplinary suspension for an entire year. His decision making been questionable af.

OK, so now you're validating Sean's BS suspension by Goodell as a reason for MT to ....ah whatever dude.

They both are BS suspensions, but the forum isn’t mad at Sean Payton’s politics or personality off the field. They’re mad at Thomas...hence this gross overreaction to a practice fight. **** like that doesn’t stop just because training camp ends.

Your leaps of logic are beyond me. I'm not mad at MT, not even slightly. I'm just disappointed his actions are going to take him out of our offense this week. I have zero idea what Sean's actions on or off the field have to do with this discussion at all. Zilch. If you think that our coaches should encourage teammates to actively attack each other after the play is over in practice then I can only hope you never coach anyone in anything for any reason. Seriously, maybe don't even make suggestions...

MT has 3 catches through 5 games. Keep that in mind 😆😆😆

Landed more punches than catches

Re: Michael Thomas will miss Week 5 matchup with Chargers due to disciplinary issue

I have to agree with both your arguments , from 9th grade thru college there were fights on the practice field in the locker rooms and sometimes on game days , mostly face mask pulling , wrestling tackling a man down and you land up so dammed tired and had to do stadiums or a lap or 2 , but if you punched , especially sucker punched you were sent to the showers then home then had to got in coaches office , then apologize to the team a lot of BS for that 1 punch

Not a small step to sit your #1 offensive weapon for DB ... no inside intel but something or multiple points of disruption must have pushed SP to act. Players in past that have caused SP to reach a point where its team or player that player found himself on another team. I don’t think SP is there but this could well be a the first warning shot across the bow.

Don’t follow social media so I will not see MT’s likely response nor will I pay attention to the main stream talking heads opinions. Next weeks game and inside reporting from “neworleans.football” and Nick Underhill will probably give us more real information.

I punched out a team mate once and the team threatened to throw me off the team. He started it....:argue:

The point is that tempers flare when you get this many alpha personalities together and there will be conflicts. A good team leader knows how to manage these conflicts and turn the focus into something positive.

It’s football. You actively encourage aggression. You want it to be controlled rage but people aren’t robots so **** happens. So no, I don’t really give a damn that MT threw a punch at somebody with a helmet on. He’s who he is as a player because of that rage and physicality. Same for CJG.

Yeah, but you gotta draw the line somewhere. I myself don't think a single swat to a helmet was the only issue leading to the suspension. I think there's more to it, but unless someone squeals (sources say...) we'll never know.

When he comes back off the bye week he’ll probably put up 200 yards.

Its wrong to strike another human being. There is no justification for it - punching someone is a tool for the weak-minded.

I like MT. I love his passion. Whether he's suspended or not is secondary to the fact that he could use some education in how to conduct himself when faced with anger. I am truly disappointed. I hope he can look within himself and learn to control his emotions. Good luck Mike. I'm pulling for you man.

Re: Michael Thomas will miss Week 5 matchup with Chargers due to disciplinary issue

It was an easy decision for Payton, I would imagine. Thomas was still questionable for the game. Payton was able to kill two birds with one stone by sitting Thomas. He gives him two more weeks to recover and gets to make a point. Win/win. We all know the confrontation was not unprovoked regardless of who started it. But, if Thomas were 100% I'll bet we would have never heard a word of the incident just like all of the others that take place all the time.

From what I read, MT punched CJG when he wasn't looking. That's not a fight, that's an ambush.

Any player who ambushes a teammate should sit whether convenient or not.

I liked Steve Smith until he sucker punched a teammate who was kneeling down. I lost all respect for him at that moment.

From what I’ve heard it was indeed a sucker punch and not a a skirmish after a practice rep like people are picturing. I don’t know what exactly lead to it, but teammates are really pi$$ed at Mike right now.

Re: Michael Thomas will miss Week 5 matchup with Chargers due to disciplinary issue

-Thomas is a supremely talented guy who has and does work as hard as anyone at his craft.
-Thomas is extremely blessed to have Payton as his coach and Brees as his QB.
-A NFL locker room has 53 alpha's in it not counting the coaches.
-As fans, we have no clue what goes on in a locker room or on a practice field.
-Thomas and Gardner-Johnson seemingly genuinely don't like each other.
-If these type things aren't worked out, it can fracture a team.
-Thomas is a diva who makes 30 times as much as CGJ.
-CGJ is a tough guy who doesn't take crap.
-By all accounts it was Thomas who was in the wrong.
-They need to be locked in a private room and whatever happens happens.
