Thats a tough one. I go back to 1983. RB Wayne Wilson was our most explosive player, in my opinion. He was sure fun to watch and root for.
But our Bum Phillips Defense was a tactical masterpiece & Rickey Jackson was his centerpiece, so I think I'm going to go with Rickey.

When the USFL folded, '85, I think, somebody interviewed Bobby Hebert to ask, since he was a true free agent, where he would be interested in playing for in the NFL. He mentioned being from Cut Off, LA, and that he had always wanted to play for the Saints. I nearly jumped through my ceiling, I was so excited.

If you're too young to remember, or your old, but you can only think of the playoff losses, you dont grasp what an exciting, underrated quarterback Bobby was. We had so many big wins over so many playoff contenders, and so much excitement in the 80s and early 90s.

Archie should have a statue. Drew is Hall of Fame. But Bobby is my favorite Saint of all time.

I remember. He was was fun to watch. A true Louisiana native. How awesome was that? Then, he signed with the Falcons and it killed me. I don't know if there was an issue with contact negotiations or what happened, but it was awful seeing him in a clown uniform.

Oh man, I forgot about Iron head Heyward too! Man thinking about the late 80's and 90's is bringing back some great memories!

Exactly. How often do we see Kamara get one on one with a linebacker on the outside? That would be impossible for teams to do to Reggie.

Pierre Thomas is right there. The UDFA screen king that helped win a Super bowl by doing everything right. But my favorite is Drew by a long shot. No one else comes close but Colston has earned honorable mention. I'd be remiss if I didn't include the chase down and strip return for a TD by Meachum. That was possibly the best hustle play that I've ever seen. He earned my undying respect for that.

Although I liked Archie and was excited when G Rodgers was drafted, my "first" favorite player was Rickey Jackson....then my favorites have evolved. My all time favorites R. Jackson, S. Mills, M. Colston, D. McAllister. Pretty fond of the Kamara kid.

I'm with you on this. Just flat out a bad-ass linebacker.

I remember Ricky wearing a Daniel Boone coonskin cap during an interview once. The interviewer asked another player if anyone else in the locker room could get away with that and he quickly said no.

Archie would be my first choice. So many great players over the years but they could never be put together to form a team until recent years. Hokie was amazing but his knees couldn't hold up. Muncie and Galbreath were fun to watch and Wes. Always liked the way Hobie Brenner played also. Too many to name them all.

PT was criminally underused and underappreciated by many but was such a game changer, it was just never noticed because he was always part of a 4 headed monster at RB.

Colston, I remember when I first watched the Saints in 06 and the guy just immediately jumped out, not to mention he just seems like a great human being. He was just so consistent and just knew how to get open, despite never being the fastest.

Didn't think I would see Saints in SB let alone win one during my lifetime.

I came to the States a wide eyed Frechman in 1978, not knowing a thing about American Football. Landing in New Orleans, I bonded with the Saints, sorta like a pet with their master. I missed out on the early years of Saints players, some of which were mentioned already. To pick just one would be a slight on a quite a few, from a historical perspective. But man, I love me some Dome Patrol ! Methinks the NFL of today wouldn't tolerate that kind of play, as the game's been wussified. Then you'd have to go the QBs, Brees then Archie.

Can you imagine a Dome Patrol Defense with a Brees/SP led Offense? It'd be one for the history books, sorta like LSU's season last year. :bng:

Seems like a lot of Saints went and got a short contract with Atlanta even watching Morten kick for the Dirty Ones was gut wrenching.
But Skymike is right there was no one like the Cajun Cannon...to the day I
die I will never forget what he brought to the Saints.

Drew is number one in my book. Deuce McAllister and Marques Colston are second and third.

The Dome Patrol was awesome. I liked Vaughn Johnson the most.

I love what Gleason and Will Smith gave the organization. Vilma was a great LB and I really liked his leadership.

That D-line of the early 2000's was scoocum. Norman Hand actually screaming while hitting the offesive lineman was great.

I love the grit and the stories from the 80's but 2000 - 2020 has been great football from this team.

I really, really liked Chuck Muncie too. I loved the way he ran with the ball. The thing is that I have had many favorites over the years. Not always the best player either, sometimes it is just a tough gritty guy that gets the job done. A good example would be Lance Moore.
