Hey all,
I am an avid Saints/City of New Orleans fan. I don't have a lot of money, but I want to help. One of the first things I am doing is giving blood. What about you? Any other suggestions? |

RE: Give Blood
Giving blood is good, I heard on the radio that these crisis organizations are asking for money and blood.
I gave up on my quest for a new TV. Seemed idiotic to buy one, given the circumstances. |

RE: Give Blood
Giving blood is always a good thing to do. This year they're having a shortage and now with this disaster is going to be even worse. Giving to a charity organization can be risky, unless you give to a well known organization like the Red Cross. Its sad to say, but there will be people posing as charity organizations.
Atleast when giving blood, you know you're not being tricked. |

I don't think there is much need for blood but I suggest contacting the Red Cross and send them can foods bottled water and clothes. They need food and water BAD... for those of you in La. seek where they are taking in refugees and send them food ect there. You can even invite to take some into your homes.

If you have a tattoo, You must wait 12 months before you can donate blood again.
I just found that out today. I don't have a tattoo so i was fine. As for the need for blood. It varies in different areas. Some places have enough, others don't. What happens is the places who don't have blood have to buy from the other cities. The cost is high, especially in cases like the Gulf where money is so important right now. As long as the Gulf gets free blood they won't need to buy. You can help in your own city too. By donating in your hometown, you create a solid supply. That way your hospital won't have to buy. The excess blood can go where it is needed. But the real important thing is... Any Help is GREAT |

anyone know anything about helping to house people without a place to go? I realize I'm all the way in NJ, but I'm curious nonetheless...

I know this sounds weird, but can I give blood at the Red Cross with the specific request that it goes toward the New Orleans/Katrina area?
