Whether he can throw 50 yards IS precisely the question that needs to be asked, well one of the questions. Along with whether he can improvise and do something with his feet instead of throwing it away. DB#9 has experience and he’s one of the most cerebral and accurate (0-20 yards) QB’s in the NFL but he’s not going to test a defense with his feet or a mid range to deep throw. $25 mil per year for a check down aged QB isn’t the right attitude to build the future team, imho. It’s holding onto the past and hoping the quadragenarian can make it through game after game, hit after hit, for one “final” championship. And he’s one of the least sacked QB’s on record, least hit also, but the body breaks down regardless of how well we take care of it as it ages, and injuries are more prevalent bc of it. Ice, I’m not saying you’re wrong, far from it. It’s a very good team, one that went 5-0 sans DB#9 last year and so far 3-0 this. The team is NOT just one player. This DB#9 is not the same DB#9 who won the SB. And it’s my belief that he’s only capable of running the Charlie checkdown portion of CSP’s playbook. And it limits the offense greatly.

LOL. I made a post about how interesting it is to watch teams transition away from legendary QBs before. I lived it with the team I detest most in the NFL (Niners) for years while I lived there and watched the local fans debate how to go from Montana to Young and beyond. Since I wasn’t a fan Incould watch it with a detachment. Here in Pats country they are seeing it too and, honestly, am surprised at how they have started to play well with Newton.

It seems to me transitioning from a HOF Qb is a multi-faceted equation that takes into account Contracts, injuries, surrounding support, coaching, competition and other things i haven’t even thought of. Judging the decline in Brees’ throws has to be judged against cap hits if he retires against the Monetary value of a Brees goodbye season in a non lockdown country.

I’m not saying I have this formula of course. I’m pretty sure Payton and Loomis and Company have demonstrated they are as close to figuring it out as any other group of “mad scientists” is ! 😄

It all about command, control and confidence. CSP has all of those in DB, the players have that in DB. DB has Command of the offense, control of the game plan of the week and the demonstrated confidence to execute. Weather he throws the ball downfield 5 yards or 20 yards is not the point, the point is he is moving the team down the field with his complete command of the offensive scheme. Who else would you want in a 2:00 minute drill the win a game. He’s in control because he understands what the defense is trying to do and adjust before the ball is snapped. Does always execute, no, no player is perfect.

I don’t think I have ever heard DB blame anyone when things did not go well.

I like Taysom might be what we have next year and I will support him or whoever is our QB and the team as I have since 1967. But this year when Drew Brees says he ready he needs to be the one leading this team in the playoffs and on to the SuperBowl.

Re: The Official Eating Crow About Taysom Thread

Would Taysom have the wherewithal to pirouette after dropping the snap with 11 fractured ribs and a punctured lung to drop a perfect pass to AK41 for a TD in about 3 seconds?

I have not seen Taysom throw any impressive bombs. The one a couple games back Sanders had to back track about 6 yards to catch. Drew has thrown some longer passes with zip this year so he has enough arm to say, put the team in position to win 7 games of 9.

Many folks point to Hill's performance in the playoff Vikings game last year. He completed 1 pass (50 yd gain). He was getting 12.5 yards per play as a runner and receiver.

I can tell you guys this, the opposing teams can’t wait to get DBs back. It shrinks the field for them. I want DBs in command in the playoffs , but let’s let the man heal and come back fresh, let them try and figure out batman for now.

I think there's a few throws that Taysom made that Drew could not have done. A couple of them were 3rd and 15+ after an offensive penalty and Taysom just rifled the ball in there. With Drew in the game, Payton likely calls that annoying WR bubble screen, gains 2 yards and punts.

There have also been plays where we needed seven yards and Taysom rifled it in their through the receiver's hands and other plays where he has simply clearly missed the receiver.

I repeat, Taysom has faced one of the worst defenses in the NFL twice and a team crippled by no QB on the roster active in the other game, while Brees has faced a top 11 defense in five of his nine starts this season. Taysom has done his job, albeit against inferior competition, to keep us winning, but he hasn't shown me anything other than keeping the boat afloat until the captain returns to the helm.

Re: The Official Eating Crow About Taysom Thread

One more point on this subject.

For every rifled pass downfield that Hill makes that Brees can't, there are probably three passes made by Brees that Hill hasn't shown that he could make via touch or experience. For every one time that Taysom makes a play at QB with his legs there are most likely three that Brees makes through his decision making and accuracy that Hill hasn't.

I absolutely love Taysom and believe we would be at our best with him as the jack of all trades and Brees controlling the ship for as long as Brees chooses.

Yikes! But you may have a point Diz. Idk.

I'm always good with Drew being in there. I just want him healed and healthy first. He needs to be on point for the playoffs. Let the kid keep things going for right now.

Think of this too...when Drew comes back and Hill comes in at QB, I bet teams are gonna think twice about not worrying about a pass. Lol. Probably **** their pants.

I still believe that Jameis Winston is the future of the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Taysom has done admirably at times and is still learning on the job

Hill’s biggest tests are coming up
