I owe Dennis Allen an apology

I will be the first to admit it, early on in the season I was pissed that we let Nolan go, and kept DA. To me it seemed that something was off and it wasn't the players.

I'm not sure who it was but one of you even responded by saying hold the phone, give it some time. This defense is becoming more and more fun to watch...I love it!

Happy to eat crow and say I sure like how our defense looks now, despite my calling for DAs head on a platter!

I was going to start a thread on this..

"Where are all the DA haters?"

Glad many of you are owning up to it, same with the T.Hill folks, good character here.

We all make mistakes, we only learn from them when we admit it.

Re: I owe Dennis Allen an apology

Da knows how to coach defenses but they don't play well until he dials back the game plan and cuts the play book in half. When the team doesn't have to think about a complex scheme then they can play at full speed. DA is known to make complex schemes like Payton. The problem is that he's not as smart as Payton.

He almost always starts slow and then gets better after he makes the plays more player friendly. He eventually gets the defense playing well when everyone is healthy.

His problem is he just has no clue how to close out a game. Prevent defense is his favorite way to let the other team get points on the board and keep it close.

My twin brother still can't believe that I'm off the DA bandwagon especially since I preached his praises for years. Every game the defensive backs are looking and pointing at everyone else after a completed pass. Most scores are off of PI interference and/or blown coverage. That is our Achilles heel....that and not knowing how to close out games. DA is good. We need great if we want Drew to hoist the Lombardi.

Present.

The Saints defense was atrocious early in the season. Are we not allowed to criticize poor performances because they might improve some day?

Dennis deserved every bit of criticism he was getting the 1st 6 games of the season.

The mistakes and penalties seem to be going down as the season has progressed. There's definitely been improvement. I'm happy with most of what he in doing. He seemed a little blitz happy vs Atlanta and making me a little nervous, but I can't argue with the results!

As long as it makes you feel better. Other than that the critique has no audience. I don't think Dennis or Sean spend any time reading these threads so it can't be very effective at being constructive.

:D

Edit: I take that back. It does have an audience in those others that just want to vent. Like they say, "misery loves company".

;)

The lack of an off-season has quite a bit to do with that. Offensive numbers across the league were through the roof the first six or seven weeks of the season.

Agreed, the criticism was deserved and now he is earning the praise.

They are in a performance related environment, if you don't perform you are going to get questioned.

I wanted him gone early in the season, however he turned it around and now I feel better about him and our D. Opinions are allowed to change, surprising to some I know lol

I'm sure Jerry would gift wrap Nolan and send him back to us.

I wasn’t too worried about our D, they usually start slow. I had this formula worked out based on the shortened offseason and they started playing well exactly when I suspected they would. It’s become like clockwork the last few years, they just take time to all get on the same page.

Re: I owe Dennis Allen an apology

Our pass protection seems to have gotten better over night. That doesn’t just happen, changes were made.

Dennis Allen owns the poor play the first half of the season and the penalties just as much as he owns the reduction in penalties and the drastic improvements that we have seen to his secondary game plan.

No need to eat crow.

Personally, I am waiting to see what happens against KC. KC should shed a light on how the defensive secondary will preform in the post season.

Yes, they do; to think they're above it is to deny the human condition, human nature, vanity being one of those elements...

Do they take posts into account when scheming for game day? I'd hope not - even when some here may be right in their constructive criticisms...

I call total bullcrap on that, JP. There's no way Payton or Allen waste their valuable time reading Black & Gold posts.

I have no doubt his publicist had something to do with that. I seriously doubt Payton has read any threads on this site.

Twitter is not B&G.

Still think you are full of crap on that. Illusions of grandeur.
