this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I will be the first to admit it, early on in the season I was pissed that we let Nolan go, and kept DA. To me it seemed that something was off and it wasn't the players. I'm not sure ...

I owe Dennis Allen an apology
I will be the first to admit it, early on in the season I was pissed that we let Nolan go, and kept DA. To me it seemed that something was off and it wasn't the players.
I'm not sure who it was but one of you even responded by saying hold the phone, give it some time. This defense is becoming more and more fun to watch...I love it! Happy to eat crow and say I sure like how our defense looks now, despite my calling for DAs head on a platter! |

Re: I owe Dennis Allen an apology
I was going to start a thread on this..
"Where are all the DA haters?" Glad many of you are owning up to it, same with the T.Hill folks, good character here. We all make mistakes, we only learn from them when we admit it. |

Re: I owe Dennis Allen an apology
Da knows how to coach defenses but they don't play well until he dials back the game plan and cuts the play book in half. When the team doesn't have to think about a complex scheme then they can play at full speed. DA is known to make complex schemes like Payton. The problem is that he's not as smart as Payton.
He almost always starts slow and then gets better after he makes the plays more player friendly. He eventually gets the defense playing well when everyone is healthy. His problem is he just has no clue how to close out a game. Prevent defense is his favorite way to let the other team get points on the board and keep it close. My twin brother still can't believe that I'm off the DA bandwagon especially since I preached his praises for years. Every game the defensive backs are looking and pointing at everyone else after a completed pass. Most scores are off of PI interference and/or blown coverage. That is our Achilles heel....that and not knowing how to close out games. DA is good. We need great if we want Drew to hoist the Lombardi. |

Present.
The Saints defense was atrocious early in the season. Are we not allowed to criticize poor performances because they might improve some day? Dennis deserved every bit of criticism he was getting the 1st 6 games of the season. Bookmark this page for late January where it matters most. |

The mistakes and penalties seem to be going down as the season has progressed. There's definitely been improvement. I'm happy with most of what he in doing. He seemed a little blitz happy vs Atlanta and making me a little nervous, but I can't argue with the results!

Edit: I take that back. It does have an audience in those others that just want to vent. Like they say, "misery loves company". |

The lack of an off-season has quite a bit to do with that. Offensive numbers across the league were through the roof the first six or seven weeks of the season.

They are in a performance related environment, if you don't perform you are going to get questioned. I wanted him gone early in the season, however he turned it around and now I feel better about him and our D. Opinions are allowed to change, surprising to some I know lol |
