Re: What we learned, what's trending and final thoughts from the Saints surprising Philly flop | Luke Johnson

-Horrible effort.
-Poor game plan and play calling.
-OLine got whipped.
-Indecision and poor pocket presence by Hill.
-All kickers hit rough spots. Hope Lutz can rebound.
-Having the punter on the field instead of a position player may have cost the recovery.
-Brown was missed.

They came up with a great game plan to start the game. Start fast on offense and gamble on 4th down, wear the defense down early. They really had nothing to lose. We did the same thing to the Ravens a couple years back.
Hopefully it’s a wake up call.

Does Taysom make any pre-snap adjustments? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him audible.

Taysom is a much better jack of all trades player than he is a QB.

-Also, the ONLY football team in the world without a hurry up approach. Six minutes to go and down by two scores and it looked like a drive in the first quarter. Plus, the Eagles were dropping like flies on defense. Up tempo would have really put them at a disadvantage.

I don't care about playoff seeding, we're already in. Home field doesn't mean what it used to. Drew will be back. Nuff said.

What we learned? Saints will be playing wild card weekend

What’s trending and final thoughts? Saints we’re completely dominated in all phases of the game. Time to regroup and learn from this.

This loss is reminiscent of how we got beat down in the playoffs last year at home.

Hopefully this opens their eyes a little earlier, before its too late.

O-line was trash today can’t put it on taysom . Well a little , Payton has to get some too. Peat forgot to get off the buffet table again. And armstead gees Man U looked fat. And played like it to. The division is in jeopardy. Why in the hell can’t we play with a purpose outside of our division?

The writing was on the wall going into this one...

- Third straight road game.
- QB making his first start who we couldn’t prepare for.
- Game of the year next week.

It had all the makings of a trap game.

While I agree for the most part, there isn’t a big difference between seeds 2-7 because of the lack of fans, the #1 seed does mean something. Being the only team in the conference to get a bye is a big advantage. This Saints team can still make it without the bye for sure and getting healthy is the key but it still hurts dropping from the #1 spot.

Re: What we learned, what's trending and final thoughts from the Saints surprising Philly flop | Luke Johnson

Rams (only real weakness is Goff/elite defense'great offensive weapons) and the Packers (great offense average defense) scare me. Cardinals a little bit as well after seeing how Hurts ran all over the defense.

If you're a Saints fan, you've dealt with some rough playoff losses you can't be thrilled right now. I hope we go into the playoffs with momentum.

Re: What we learned, what's trending and final thoughts from the Saints surprising Philly flop | Luke Johnson

What I learned...

Saints are still the saints- they always lose at least 1 game like this.

- o line was bad, the main reason for the offense struggling
- d line got pushed around
- no gameplan and bad play calling
- not prepared for hurts
- hill is not the long term answer

Losing #1 seed means our aging, broken, rusty( because he hasn’t played in a while) QB doesn’t get extra time to recover.

The Saints were completely dominated in all phases of the game in the FIRST half!

Everybody can obsess over Taysom's return engagement of the fourth quarter fumble, but letting the Eagles run all over the place was emasculating...

Defense may want to quit with the celebrating and reading their own press clippings...

And now we gotta go to Green Bay - if we get that far...

Green Bay ? In those elements? Yikes !

Chris could probably tell us better than most but it's a different kind of cold in Wisconsin … especially in January.

Well we got to see Taysom's "2 minute" offense and come from behind game. We almost came from behind, but it's like neither offense, defense nor special teams were able to get on the same page. 6:22 left in the 4th quarter SHOULD be an eternity, but Taysom's offense has one pace.

Kind of surprised Sean Payton didn't air it out today. Especially considering the Feagles were down 2 starting cornerbacks and a back up safety.

At worst, throw it up and get the pass INT. All I saw were relatively short passes.

The coaching was bad today too.

Payton wants to attack a team's strength and defeat it. Bill Belichick takes away a team's strength and attacks the other components of a team...

What is Payton's record against Doug Pederson? Sean McVay? Mike Zimmer? Bill Belichick?

We were flat and performed miserably in all aspects of football. Calling out a name is really short sighted.

- Poor play calling
- Poor decision making
- poor tackling
- missed field goals
- offensive line was abused
- run defense was abused
- panic holding in our secondary
- lost an onside kick from the bottom of the scrum
- poor ball control

When it comes to Taysom Hill, we all like to believe that we know what the f6ck we are talking about and honestly we do not. No, not you either, if you did you would be a paid scout.

I went back in a B&G time machine to look at what was being said before Drew Brees became a Saint, this was with 4 years as a starter with the Chargers. We have 4 games with Taysom Hill.
- not competent enough to carry our team
- not a good fit for our team
- Leinart has more potential than Brees
- Sign Brees and trade him for AJ Hawk

I am not saying he is the future, and I am not saying he isn't the future, I am saying we don't know **** at this point and to watch people argue for an injured player that cant even take the field is stupidity.

So.. calm ya fu6kin t1ts ya impatient bas7ards. :D

... Oh and SPK wasn't a bitter troll back then either. Sorry we lost ya. :bng:

And our Dad, Uncle, or Mom's lover would have to be an influential coach or scout - Nepotism is definitely a part of the hiring process...

TheOak 12-14-2020 10:01 AM

Re: What we learned, what's trending and final thoughts from the Saints surprising Philly flop | Luke Johnson

Here is a small stat that may give some insight as to how other teams see/play our defense.

Opponent 4th down attempts
24 attempts 52.4% success rate - Saints (our opponents go for it on 4th down more than any other defense in the league, and make it more than 1/2 the time)

That's an average of 1 successful drive per game being extended on 4th down. That's twice a game opponents are electing to not punt or kick a FG and rather risk going for a 1st.

Something just doesn't correlate between that stat and being the #1 defense in the league or being a shut down defense.

I'm projecting here but a game in the Dome in January vs. outdoors in Green Bay would be preferable. But you're right, the Saints are locked in for a playoff spot so that's pretty great.

Our defense was bound to have a clunker at some point. Better now than in the playoffs.

One crazy thing I won't forget for a long time - I was at B-dubs watching the game and of course all of the other games were on. But our onside kick was kicked at almost the exact same time as Detroit ended up kicking theirs. And in both cases there were minutes where the refs had to sort out whose ball it was. It was happening in two different games simultaneously! Crazy stuff.

I believe it went our way initially. Then Philly took it back in the scrum. I've re-watched that play several times. I referee rugby and I know rugby and how to spot the ball on the deck. It took much too long for the refs to make a call. The ball probably moved back and forth two or thee times.

Think the biggest thing learned on this board is some fans can only stick it out when things are going well. The other negative nancies quit on the team just because they're having one bad game.

This game would have sealed the division, I don't know how much more motivation they needed honestly.

To come out and play like that, especially against a rookie was pretty disheartening.
