Trey Hendrickson ties Aaron Donald for NFL sacks lead, on fewer snaps

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; It is maddening because there’s an All Pro in there but for whatever reason, he hasn’t reached it. I certainly don’t want him to leave and be that guy elsewhere. Good to see you too ice....

So what about the rest of his consistently bad season?

Which is understandable if they're comp'ing him to the rest of his games. He sets a very high bar and his "average" when compared to other quarterbacks, is still better than the majority.

I'm ragging on Lattimore because I know we will likely re-sign him and it's going to take a lot of money to do so. He's been underachieving and we'll have to pay him like an elite corner out of necessity, not because he's is one.
Consistently bad? See Andrus Peat who got a big contract after statistically poor year end and year out not to mention he's always hurt. If Lattimore isn't re signed, Saints better have a damn good plan B for options at #1 CB.

You lose Marshon Lattimore, this defense will take a nose dive. He was probably the most important piece we had covering Hill and Kelce last Sunday.

I'll repeat, when you spend literally a decade trying to find a top level CB (Latt isn't perfect but he is still a top 10 boundary guy) you don't allow him to walk (extend in 21, he'll cost more in FA) to grab another rookie or veteran on the cheap.

Even a team like the Patriots, who historically don't pay players did so with Stephone Gilmore.

That speaks volumes as to how invaluable & critical the cornerback position is at this level.

Beware of contract year performance spikes... it's easy to get burned.

This is a weird tangent. Are you saying that since Peat was consistently bad and we paid him, that we should overpay for Lattimore too? And if we do decide to move on from Lattimore, which I'm not suggesting, I would also hope we have a good plan B as well.

Based on this season? Yea I don't know about that. We're a top ranked defense with Lattimore playing bad all season. On the second part of that, I honestly don't know how you can say that with a straight face.

Except he's not. He certainly has the talent to be one though. Lattimore should be what Jaire Alexander is as they have a similar physical style of play(with a higher pedigree)... but he's no where near that level. To be a little fair to Lattimore, he does have a daunting task facing top tier WRs every week. He might be a defacto number 1 but in reality, he's not. I'm not sure how you could justify that. His regression isn't something that just started this season.

No one would disagree how invaluable and critical having good corners are especially how unfavorable the rules are this day in age for physical corners. I'm just pointing out the facts. I am rooting for Lattimore to reach the level we all know he's capable of. We certainly need it if we don't want to get disappointed in the playoffs again. I don't know how much more I can take. I'm pretty thankful we have a very promising defense that has gotten me a little excited again.

I just wanted to say something about the KC game as well. I know what the score was and what the metrics say but with that said, I thought we played a pretty good game defensively. IMO we lost because of Mahomes, not because our defense played bad... if that makes sense.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Exactly, notice what’s going on in the nfl , a surge in running QBs, that tangible extra play in your bag, the defenses worst nightmare, tying to cover it all its so hard to stop. Pittsburg got run last nite because Finley did a good job of keeping them guessing . It’s where we’re going I believe after Brees, u have to u will be left behind in this league

Lattimore appears lazy. I don't know that he is lazy but it sure seems that way.

Back to Hendrickson, I said in the chat that I loved him not only making plays but also pointing his finger at the Left Tackle and showing himself to be a dawg. The Saints defense has dawg players at every level. The offense would do well to get Thomas back out there not only because he's a great WR but he also has the "stop me" attitude.

Lattimore is a very good CB. Somewhat inconsistent at times but what other CB has lined up against the WRs and QBs we have in the NFC South as well as other opponents this year. You have to look beyond just numbers.

If we let him walk, we definitely better have a plan b.

Lattimore is not the best. But he is the best we've had in a long long time. Give him an heavily incentive laden contract because apparently sometimes he needs incentive to play his best game.

Tre has been like watching a baby grow up over the last four years. Remember when he could barely get a pass rush? Our little boy is all grown up now!
