The Bills are the only other team to sweep their division this year. McDermott and Payton for co-coach of year award.

Kansas City's game plan was to sell out completely on the run and force Brees to throw the ball in his first game back. Normally Brees would make a team pay bigtime for using that strategy, but if you remember he was clearly off early and didn't get into a rhythm until the second half.

You know the old saying, "dance with the one that brung ya'"? Going pass or run based upon the defensive alignment is what has made Payton/Brees' offenses the best in the NFL over the last decade and a half. Running the ball when the box is stacked over and over again will do nothing but produce 3 and outs.

Which would be pretty darned quick if all you did was show run. How many three and outs signify proving they stop it? One, two, perhaps three or more? How about when you're down 17-0?

Most play callers have a script of 15 plays to be used in 1st and 2nd down situations of average down and distance. These are used when the ball is between the twenties. Most of these have a pass/run option based upon the defense. These are always the most practiced and should show success based upon execution.

Second and third downs and long are also planned in advance, as are plays from inside your own 20 and inside the opponents red zone. These plays are not part of the scripted 15 plays.

This was all from Charlie Weis recently when asked by a caller about the impact of the regular play caller being out due to COVID.

Simply running the ball until they prove they can stop it may work in high school or in out-manned college match-ups, but not against NFL caliber defenses. Those same defenses will be playing to stop the run until you show you can throw it.

Sean scripts the first 13-15 plays. Always has and is known as one of the best in the league at it. Scripting the first few possessions allows the offense to set the pace otherwise the defense will dictate things which is not where we want to be. Second half is different due to adjustments to what was seen in the first half.

The loss to KC being a prime example. The Chiefs run defense was ranked around 26th when we played and I believe AK was averaging around 5+ yards a carry in that game and it was Brees' first game back from a significant injury. SP should have run the brakes off of KC.

It would have kept Mahomes on the sidelines and IMO dramatically increased the Saints chances of winning.

Know it's rare in this day and age, but if Truth is more important than winning, you'll see the plays if you take your time and watch it objectively...

Payton has no fear to pass, pass, and pass - smarter, better defensive teams have figured this out and scheme accordingly...

At this stage of Brees' career, and given the investment and talent on the offensive line and running back, as well as WR; it'd make more sense to run a play-action pass offense...

I'd also include roll-outs for Brees' happy feet and justified distrust in the center of his oft-injured line; he's just got to get that ball downfield to Sanders, Trautman et al - hitting the receiver(s) in stride...

My only beef is with Roger Goodell for his never-ending vendetta against our coach and the resulting Vince McMahon-style tampering with our postseason success the past two years with those blatant and inexcusable no-calls that ended both seasons. The year before that was a straight-up fluke. This has been a team good enough to win four straight Super Bowls and we still have nothing to show for it. There is a window of opportunity that isn't going to last forever.
