Re: SI.com/Bob Rose | Saints Assistants Getting Attention from NFL Teams
Things will heat up even more after we win our second Lombardi on February 7th.
Yes, the same date as we won our first Lombardi. No doubt we'll lose a few excellent coaches ... at least in some of our minds. There remain a few that will celebrate. |
Re: SI.com/Bob Rose | Saints Assistants Getting Attention from NFL Teams
It is time for Pete Carmichael to land a head coaching job, way overdue.

Re: SI.com/Bob Rose | Saints Assistants Getting Attention from NFL Teams
If we had a practice squad coach, he would be getting the most looks.

Re: SI.com/Bob Rose | Saints Assistants Getting Attention from NFL Teams
I'm most worried about losing Nielson. He turned around the D-line and then the secondary improved. Just last year and even earlier this year we were turning on Allen and Glenn because we were a better team than we put out on the field.
They can have Fontenot though. He's been pretty much hit or miss in his time here. He only improved when my man Ireland cleaned house in the scouting department and cleared up the specifics of what we wanted from a draft pick. I don't think Ireland will go anywhere else. He's very well paid and is well respected here in New Orleans. Change his title to whatever but keep him here doing his thing of giving us tons of talent. He failed as a GM before but is one heck of a scouting director. Why leave the perfect place for what may or may not be greener pastures? |

Agreed on coach Nielsen.
At some point, I believe he’ll get a opportunity at DC. |

If Pete were (already has interviewed for the Bears in 2013) offered a position on another team it would be to get insights on Sean Payton and Pete knows that. The Bears job would have been the stepping stone to a HC position... he didn’t take it. If he has the skill sets that we assume, he would be the heir apparent to Sean Payton. |

I would think there are some front office people who are on other team's radars as well. Given the success we've had with drafts, salary negotiation, cap deallings, etc. As much as we want to keep the team together, it is a sign of success when others want what you have.

I know a lot of people call him arrogant but I can’t think of a successful NFL coach that isn’t/wasn’t.. Lombardi, Schula, Landry, Belichik, Parcells, Gruden, all have the same character trait, they were arrogant and full of hubris. Not Jerry Jones sort of obnoxious arrogance but a more subdued arrogance. A certain level of it is required to lead men into a combat environment. |
Re: SI.com/Bob Rose | Saints Assistants Getting Attention from NFL Teams
I heard Zach S say that Saints Dline coach Ryan Nielsen could get the LSU DC job.
Just an fyi … |

Worth noting that if Fontenot is hired by the A-T-L, we get a compensatory pick (possibly as high as a 3rd'er)...
Sure hope they hire him so Sean Payton can trade it away in another massive draft overspend... |

Here's what one of the PFF guys thinks; personally, am hoping Campbell stays and is Payton's successor within the next season or two...

I know you, JP. The draft is your favorite part of the NFL season. This last draft must have been hard on you with so few picks. You must have been on suicide watch back in 1999. |

Second, perennial contenders build through the draft, you don't need special inside knowledge to recognize this by the numbers... Third, the numbers bear out, the more picks, the greater the chances of increasing team talent level - evidenced by the 2017 Saints... |

As for 2017, it wasn't the number of the picks, it was the quality of the players taken with those picks. I don't know if you play darts or not, but if I was given a choice of throwing a fist full of darts at one time and five darts one at a time I would bet the bank on getting more bullseyes on those five darts every time. Yes, perennial winners do build through the draft. Those winners don't need a ton of picks to accomplish that, however. And we all know you well enough to know how much the draft and the evaluation of the draftees means to you. No need for satellite radio to show us that. :D Oh, and I listen to XM, not Sirius. |

Did you consider your audience? The casual fan blah blah blah........." Sirius XM Holdings Inc. is an American broadcasting company headquartered in Midtown Manhattan, New York City that provides satellite radio and online radio services operating in the United States. It was formed by the 2008 merger of Sirius Satellite Radio and XM Satellite Radio, merging them into SiriusXM Radio. XM Satellite Radio Radio broadcasting company XM Satellite Radio was one of the three satellite radio and online radio services in the United States and Canada, operated by Sirius XM Holdings. "There are three different kinds of radios, each with different technology: Sirius radios, XM radios and SiriusXM radios. Radios labeled as Sirius radios can only receive Sirius packages, XM radios can only receive XM packages, and SiriusXM radios can only receive SiriusXM packages." XM technology is generally recognized to have better sound quality than Sirius, as well. It is a more established technology. |
