Things will heat up even more after we win our second Lombardi on February 7th.

Yes, the same date as we won our first Lombardi.

No doubt we'll lose a few excellent coaches ... at least in some of our minds. There remain a few that will celebrate.

It is time for Pete Carmichael to land a head coaching job, way overdue.

I would hope so for his sake, but I dunno, Pete doesn't seem to get any credit nationally. Watching games on TV, I can't remember the last time I saw him on camera. Sean gets all national credit for our O. I think we'll lose DA first.

Fond memories of when Pete took on a bigger role in playcalling in 2011 and our offense literally exploded.

But is he? If I asked my daughter who the offensive coordinator for the Saints is, they would hit the internet and come back with Pete Carmichael. If I asked any of you or our opponents who coordinates and runs the offense the response would be Sean Payton. I don’t recall anyone yelling “*^%#ing Pete” after a questionable play.

If Pete were (already has interviewed for the Bears in 2013) offered a position on another team it would be to get insights on Sean Payton and Pete knows that.

The Bears job would have been the stepping stone to a HC position... he didn’t take it. If he has the skill sets that we assume, he would be the heir apparent to Sean Payton.

I expect Payton to leave soon after Brees decides to retire. Another reason why I hope Brees decides to continue past this season.

I am not sure what to expect from Payton as I do not know what his personal drivers are. He has a net worth of +/- $25M, 1 Super Bowl trophy, 26th all time winning-est coach in the NFL, and at 56 years old he is young even by NFL standards with 9 HCs older than he is.
  • Does he want another SB trophy with the Saints.
  • Does he want another SB trophy with a different team to help get him into the HoF.
  • Does he want another SB with a different QB to speak to his skillset and remove the Brees shadow.
  • Is he comfortable where he lives and wants to work the rest of his career out living in New Orleans
  • Is he tired and only wants to coach Drew
  • Does his GF play a part in his future
  • Will his children effect whether he wants to live in or move out of New Orleans.

Only he knows these answers and I would take everything he says publicly with a grain of salt, he has a line to tow while he is under contract.

Please explain why he would leave New Orleans. I just don't see it. This franchise is literally built around him.

I’d go as far as to say he built this franchise, at least the last 14 years which it notably its mode successful period.

I know a lot of people call him arrogant but I can’t think of a successful NFL coach that isn’t/wasn’t.. Lombardi, Schula, Landry, Belichik, Parcells, Gruden, all have the same character trait, they were arrogant and full of hubris. Not Jerry Jones sort of obnoxious arrogance but a more subdued arrogance.

A certain level of it is required to lead men into a combat environment.
