A bit on Harper

JACKSON, Miss. There was a time when Roman Harper might have just as soon asked for a teammate's autograph rather than advice.

Even as the New Orleans Saints second-round pick in April's NFL draft, Harper remembers feeling like a kid with a Sharpie pen when he first reported to the team's Metairie practice facility this past spring.

"The biggest shock for me was when I first got here and I saw the big-time guys I've been watching on TV," Harper recalled Friday. "Guys like Joe Horn, Deuce McAllister. Then you see Reggie Bush. But you have to get over that feeling quick."
Harper still has plenty of respect for his teammates, but he's no longer in awe.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound safety has been far too busy these days making an impression of his own during the Saints preseason training camp at Millsaps College.

Harper faces one of his first big tests as a rookie today when the Saints hold their first full-contact scrimmage at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.

I wasn't sure about this pick after the draft and then with all the safeties we had on the roster, but everything I'm hearing/reading sounds like he's gonna be a good player for us.

Yeah, I've read this! I sure hope he can keep doing great like this so he can get alot of playing time during the season

I like this pick, he sounds like his head is on straight. Plays tough instinctive football, but whom am i, " I thought the same thing about Keo Craver. "

if jeff stays healthy and harper see the field for some game time it will make the passing up of a LB that much easier to take. may not be able to stomach watching the LB though. at least the indegestion wont near as bad as last year. this could be the best second round move we have made.

Some Saints fans didn't like the idea of trafting Roman Harper.

Look like he is going to change that!!!!

Not with some camp reports he ain't. Almost everyone is a star in camp reports. I didn't like the pick, and still don't. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I like the guy, but we could have got him with a later pick. We could have used that #2 on a DT or OT. There were some really good ones in the 2nd round this year. I've got a buddy w/ the athletic dept. at Alabama (poor bast**d) that sais Harper has a knack for being around the ball, studies film, & is a workout warrior. He claims he was a good pick for us. Time will tell, though.

He'll prove to be a great pick, I believe. He's a linebacker playing a little farther back from line of scrimmage. In his college career he was a ball hawk. Our free agent aquisitions at safety lately haven't panned out (Stoutmier looks great). A great safety is a 4th linebacker.

everytime i start to get optimistic about the season, i read something that tells me to step back and think it over. We do have hands down the worse defense in our division...in a division that is going to run the ball against everyone in the league, especially us. We have the weakest o-line, DT's, and LB's in the entire league. I do think the offense will be fun to watch, and i would love for the Saints to be the surprise team in the league, but there is no way this team wins more than 6 games this year.
