Black and gold scrimmage (today)
According to the news stations here in Jackson, coach Payton was happy with the outcome. He said they got a lot accomplished but still had a long way to go. They showed a clip of Reggie breaking a 25 yard run and a very good catch by Colston.
Drew Brees said the defense got the best of the afternoons session, but the offense will come back. There will be more tonight on the 10 o'clock news. This according to wlbt in Jackson |

WWL Re-cap
LB's looked much better than anyone imagined, probably most improved unit. D-Line looked good O-line struggled DB's looked awesome (including Roman Harper) Will Smith and Charles Grant absolutely owned the offense Whitehead and Thomas looked better than Leisle and Young WR's look stacked, Colston and Chris Horn praised. TE's looked mediocre at best, not bad, but no stand-outs Brees looked OK. Two picks. Fred Thomas looks better than ever and had play of the day with a juggling pick. Strief and Brown were dominated by Smith and Grant. Bush struggled mightily on Blitz pick-ups. Fincher looked pretty good at MLB Fujita looks like our best LB Funny note: Bush got mad at a semi-hard tackle by Stoutmire, and tried to run over him a few plays later, instead of juking him, and Stoutmire leveled his ass. I got all that from Danno off the Rev... hope you didn't mind me bringing that over here. Thanks for the sum up. |

Bobby has been extremely critical of the LB's of late, but he was very pleased with their improvement.
His best comment of the day... You just want to improve every time you play, and thats what they're doing. No one expected them to look like the Steelers after a week of practice, with a completely new staff on O & D, and with all the new players. I think its a huge mistake to judge this team right now. Lets start really critiquing them after that 2nd/3rd preseason game. Even then may be a little soon considering all the newness we're dealing with. |

saints fans never retire joesam. you will come back to haunt the dome in the end anyways.
I am glad bobby backed off the " give up a 3 and a 5 for edwards" preaching he has been doing. maybe hokie took out back after the last broadcast and beat some sense into him. you do not mortage the future on a 33 year old LB, when you are rebuilding. LB can not be judge till they start putting in some hits. the combo of Whitehead and Thomas is not a big surprise to me. That is some quick beef, to keep OL off the LB. The OL will need time. that group takes the longest, to click, of any on the field. I thought they did okay. our draft choices held up alright and Brown has a way to go at LT. credit to him he did face one of the best DE in the game. Strief is also learning by getting beat. man bush is going to be fun to watch. Duce and Karney will have to buy him dinner by seasons end for reducing the times they will face 8 in the box. |

forgot to mention that mayberry and holland did not play. second and third stringers played alot. the line did shuffle around a good bit. Nesbit was pointed out more than once by the wwl group, mostly bobby, as needing to go back to gaurd. has bobby changed his preaching from lb to tackle? he is a bit under sized out there at tackle. I agree this is the area of most need. with Mayberry always limping and Stinchcomb always hurt, it is the weakest position (RT) on the team.

I'm really worried about our OL, in fact I'm more worried about them this season than last...
Kind of makes my stomach rumble. I think our defense will be much improved that last year. Our passing game totally depends on the OL which could be scary at times, we need a running game from hell if we want to have any chance in scoring points. Gotta believe.... |
