Dat's dumb business!!!!

Before I say what I'm gonna say on this subject, let me clarify a few things.

1. I love Drew Brees. I know he is the reason we are where we are as a team. There are plenty of other factors but none more important than him.

That being said I think the Saints are about to make Brees the highest paid qb in the league and I think it will strap them for years and years after he is done playing. It's dumb business to let other players set the market for what a superstar should be paid and then give in to the pressure and give your superstar more just to make a point that your guy is better!!!

The Saints waited for Manning to get his deal, which in my eyes was really no big deal. But right then is where I give Brees 7 years 100 million and make him a Saint for the rest of his life. They waited for the Eagles who have now said that all you actually need to do is be really talented to get 100 million dollars, not win anything!!!! Now the Saints have to are forced to make Drew better than Vick in pay. Meaning this contract is gonna be worth more than 100 million. It would have been an easier number for me to stomach had they made this commitment earlier. . Either way he has earned every freaking penny that he is about to get, but they should have been re - upped before this point. That contract is gonna make you throw up in your mouth a little when you hear the number 120 million to 130 million I think. Letting others who are not as good, set the market is just stupid ass business.

You are leaving out (or are blissfully unaware of) the most important fact, that Manning and Brees have the same agent, Tom Condon. This was always a set up from the very beginning, that Manning would get his big contract, and then Drew would come along a year or so later and get a bigger contract, with the same agent -- kinda like winning back to back Super Bowls, except it's the agent winning instead of a team. They're meant to be like streetcars coming down the track, one after the other, a year apart.

Forget Vick -- Vick's contract has nothing to do with Brees' contract. WHO CARES. Loomis knows what Vick got, but will it influence him that much? Absolutely not. There is NO WAY this deal could have been done any earlier, no way that Brees' agent would have agreed to a contract that soon after Peyton's deal, or during Peyton's deal -- it could not have been done sooner -- the whole plan all along by the agent was to have them be spaced about a year apart, as their contracts are, with one topping the other, so the agent could devote full attention to each. Forget Vick.

So I'm saying, NO WAY the Saints could have done this deal any sooner...Vick upping the price from $90 million to $100 million is kind of irrelevant, it's chump change in terms of the big picture. It was gonna be close to $100 mill no matter what. Just the fact that they are TALKING right now instead of putting it off til next year, is huge news and you should be dang happy for that! So chill out, enjoy the ride. Sean Payton says, he sees 5, 6 years, Brees here, window of opportunity. You sound like Benson, pinching pennies.

I can't care less really.

Give Bree's a blank check and let him write his number on it.

After all Bree's is no dummy.

There comes a point that you have to decide what is more important besides the money and that is winning championships.

I like Manning's take on things... how much money do you need really. Didn't care about being paid the highest... just give me this and get the deal done.

I mean that is fine and a nice feather in your cap to have that you were once the highest paid player in the league but people don't care about that long term. What it lasts for what a week or a season and then its over someone else gets the crown and who remembers who the highest player in the league was 3-5-8 years ago? People remember you for winning SB's.

Bree's hasn't lost track that its about the SB's you win and you need more than a QB to do that.

As far as straddling the franchise with salary cap burden on one guy, I agree.

The smart move is to give 'em signing bonus or other money that minimizes or doesn't count against the salary cap.

And should he be released in three to five years due to injury, retirement, or general career fulfillment, you'd still have the flexibility to sign a QB or other impact player.

Signing Chris Johnson et al RB to that kind of money is not the same thing...

Too bad NFL still doesn't have a max contract like NBA does, would make this simpler.

It might be a huge contract, but I trust Mickey to not put the Saints behind the 8 ball down the road.

Vick didn't desreve the money. Chris Johnson didnt deserve that much...

BUT...

NO ONE DOES!!

Its ridiculous that our athletes, movie starts, musics stars - whatever make so much money. Please do not get me worng I love Drew Brees - I love the Saints & I love football - BUT they are not worth what we pay them.

Most of us normal people can not even afford to go to a game anymore because saleries lead to higher prices for tickets & merchandise & concessions & parking.

Sorry to throw a wrench in - just my opinion.
