The legal teams for New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will meet in person Thursday for a status conference to discuss the league's motion for a stay of discovery filed connected to Vilma's defamation lawsuit against Goodell.

New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma (51) continues his legal fight with the NFL on Thursday.

The conference is scheduled to take place in the chambers of U.S. Magistrate Judge Daniel Knowles in downtown New Orleans.

Peter Ginsberg, Vilma's lawyer, has already requested to depose Goodell on Oct. 23 and obtain documents of evidence connected to the alleged bounty program from the commissioner by Oct. 11. Ginsberg has also subpoenaed former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, former Saints defensive assistant Mike Cerullo and Joe Hummel, former NFL lead investigator in the bounty allegations.

The NFL is trying to halt all of Vilma's requests because whether the case will proceed or not as the league's motion to dismiss the defamation lawsuit still remains unresolved.

Ginsberg wrote in Tuesday's opposition to the stay of discovery that Vilma has been waiting nearly seven months to redress the wrongs done to him by Goodell.

"To further the efforts to restore his good name, Vilma recently served discovery demands on Goodell and various third-parties," Ginsberg wrote in the opposing motion. "Goodell now seeks to delay having to answer for his misconduct by requesting a stay of discovery. Vilma complied with all statutory requirements in propounding his discovery demands and there is no basis to grant Goodell's motion to stay discovery."

Amazing that after 7 months,a 'disciplinary hearing',overturned suspension, multiple appearances in court, that whole 'evidence' has yet to be handed over the defendants.

At least the Russians and Chinese pretend to be fair in court.
Commissar Stalin,I mean commissioner Goodell really playing by the book.

I don't know if any of you have watched the British series Blackadder but it reminds me of the Corporal Punishment episode. Can't post the YouTube link as I'm at work.
General Melchett is the chief prosecution witness, the claimant and the Judge. He fined the defense council £50 for turning up.

Just sounds like a Goodell hearing to me.

"Two receivers to the left, Garcon to the right. Manning in the shotgun, puts Collie in motion. Looks in his direction...it's picked off! It's picked off! It's Tracy Porter again! He's runnin' free! He's gonna go all the way!

I'm at the care-less point of the Vilma drama.

GOOD FOR GINSBERG! He's nailing Goodell to the wall.
There's a status conference today because the NFL claims it's too early for Vilma's team to be subpoena Goodell, witnesses and documents.

They seriously are clueless. They don't want Goodell to go under oath and lie after he's been lying about the damn refs'.

At this point it is a STALL tactic, Fujita needs to head to NYC and have his meeting with Der Kommisar. If reissue of any suspensions happen it will happen then.

Der Kommisar will not have any reason to hold off any suspensions he would hand out - unless he has NO EVIDENCE there was pay for injury.

I think the NFLPA should throw a lawsuit against the league for an UNSAFE Workplace just to throw it back in the leagues place.
