How long does this team have left?
Not to look past this season but how long does this team have left?.
The defence on the whole is pretty young, but the offence is starting to age rapidly and together while sitting on big cap numbers. Going into the start of 2014 Brees 35 Thomas 29 Sproles 31 Colston 31 Moore 31 Evans 31 Grubbs 30 Streif 31 Bushrod 30 At what point do you start dismantling the offense?. Do you wait and hope that some project players in the next two drafts will be ready?,or do you start trading players while they still have trade value and start going after the top draft picks and free agents with the cap space saved? |

Re: How long does this team have left?
Our scouts always manage to find fantastic offensive talent in the draft but not so much with the D
It will still be a mix of free agents and draft picks but my prediction is by the 3rd year of Brees' contract we will already have drafted a QB to learn under him unless the staff want to stick with Chase Daniel and give him a fair shot I don't think we trade any offensive players and I honestly think Mark Ingram will be given the chance to be a full on feature back seen as our RB veterans most likely only have 3-4 more years before they are gone |

Drew has 5 to 6 good years left.
I don't think teams have windows like they used to. A good GM that fills holes with moderate free-agents, drafts BPA and occasionally lands a prize free agent like Drew Brees will stay competitive year in and year out. |

As long as Drew is performing, I don't think it matters how old his surrounding parts are. This should be...

Drew still may have 3-4 more years if we can keep him healthy but trying to keep any sort of line in front of him with that contract is going to be hard.
2014 cap hit $18.4ml 2015 $26.4ml 2016 $27.4ml Though the last two years could be cut. The question is do you keep him through the contract and hope to lower the cap numbers, cut him loose or trade him away if the right QB becomes available and restart the offense. My point about the team ageing rapidly is they are all the same age and need long term replacements in the next couple of years. Its the sane question,do you keep them till there best days are gone or let them go for players/picks that can offer more in the long term |

Re: How long does this team have left?
I don't find this as a big concern. There's the draft and free agency... we can slowly supplement players in to resolve the issue of aging. No point in breaking up something that's still in it's prime.

Re: How long does this team have left?
I think Brees has 2 year max. before his slide, and if Daniels is not the answer, draft 1 in the late round and see what he could bring to the table.

Re: How long does this team have left?
You take one day at a time ... One season at a time.
Age is irrelevant, performance is everything. When they start getting beat out at camp they are replaced. I am not a fan of anything but performance, bring in a rookie that out performs any in those list in the off season and we should have a new starter. Including QB. Any other approach is just cutting your own throat. |
