Colston

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; I wouldn't say that I am concerned, more just questions I am left with after each game. We are getting away from WR by committee and moving to more of a Graham based passing game with RBs getting more targets ...

Colston

I wouldn't say that I am concerned, more just questions I am left with after each game.

We are getting away from WR by committee and moving to more of a Graham based passing game with RBs getting more targets than any of our other recievers... .

4.5 Rec /game
62 Yards / game
1 TD this season

He is consistently second or third in targets. Against Chi, Collins had twice as many targets. His yards/rec is lower than all but 2 seasons in his career. His yards/game has never been lower, and he is on pace to have his lowest scoring season.

Jimmy is drawing all of the heat, why isn't Colston drawing more targets?

Since the games on TV rarely show un-targeted receivers can someone that has been at the games give some insight?

Re: Colston

Nobody has seemed to figure out how to take Graham out of the mix yet (coverage wise). When they do, Colston will be there like always. So many targets to try to keep up with in the Saints offense.

Re: Colston

Admittedly I haven't rewatched the game yet, but my first impression was that Stills/Toon were on the field a good bit more than they have been. I wonder if Colston's foot is coming into play here.

Re: Colston

There's no concern. Football is all about exploiting mismatches. No one can cover Graham and Sproles. So if Colston production tails off a bit this year, as long as we're winning football games, it's not a big deal... we're just taking what defenses are giving us.

With that said, prior to yesterday's game, Colston was averaging over 7 targets a game. He'll get his eventually... he always does. It's not like he's being ignored this year.

Re: Colston

Against Miami, Colston was invisible in the first half. Someone on this board remarked during halftime that he'd get his once the Phins adjusted to Graham and Sproles, and that's exactly what happened in the second half.

Re: Colston

The offense has changed a little bit and the things below have contributed to less targets for him this year.

-Graham has gotten better so more targets
-Our line has gotten worse than in previous years so we're throwing a lot of screens and quick passes to our rb's
-The play action game isn't what it used to be without the running game so less opportunities for colston to create separation (he's not the fastest guy out there)
-They are making an effort to get stills and toon more involved in the offense which is taking targets away from coltson
-Colston was hurt early in the year and may still be a little iffy

Colston will be fine. He just needs to be ready once the ball comes his way.

Re: Colston

We also played against a team that now has one of our former offensive coaches. You don't think Kromer didn't warn the DC about ignoring Colston.
Kromer knows what Colston could do if they concentrated on just Jimmy.

Re: Colston

I am fully on board with exploiting match ups... No one sees me saying "we will lose if we do not get the ball to Colston more"...

Colstons activity is always on my radar due to FF. As with PT who threw up 26 yesterday.

Re: Colston

I'm more worried about Moore. Is he rehabbing his hand or is it injured?

Payton was easing him into the season and then he went and got hurt. He is Paytons go to guy. When he hurt his wrist he just looked at it and trotted to the side lines with no indication that he was hurt. Now that is how a man handles an injury! Hurry back we need you son.
