I think I have had enough of the talented ball club we have bs... All this talk about how talented the Saints are... I think its hog-wash! We do have some exceptional players but most are just above average to poor. Our offensive line is horrendous, our D-line is pittyful, those positions is not helping our key talent to perform to the level we need to win.
Coaching problems also... we need a whole new crop of coaches in there from LB, WR, RB to D.
Call it what you when but it all starts up front... when your offensive line is letting people go by or getting bulldozed, you aren't giving your qb a chance to throw the ball and not using the talent there nor at WR. We got lucky this week. What the hell was KC thinking throwing the ball??? All they had to do was run it... run it down our throats, and blitz, blitz, blitz... don't stop coming.
SO this off season we are going to have to address revamping the whole offensive line and the defensive line before doing anything else.

yeah, well tell me what the hell the saints were thinking.
All we should have done was run the ball and blitz, blitz, blitz.. We did neither..

ok well I\'ll tell ya... KC\'s D-line is capable of a few stops of Deuce so its why we have to pass from time to time. KC\'s D-line however inferior they are is slightly better than our offensive line. We are incapable of blitzing a great deal to much or of any success... nor is our D coach capable of putting together exotic and creative blitzs.
The rule of thumb on stopping Saints offense is stop the run and blitz... you don\'t have to worry about WR much as long as you can get to Brooks and disrupt him you slow down the passing game that way.

Alright, I\'ll say it again too.

Blitzing over and over again is going to get us killed! Our D-Coord cannot predict a play to save his life. If you pass blitz on a running play, you better hope they called a run right to the gap your blitzer is coming for or I promise you at least 6 yards and a Safety or Corner has to make a tackle on the half back.

Blitzing is not as simple as people seem to think. I\'ll go over it again, but you can always just look back at our earlier discussion of this. While I do agree that we should blitz more frequently, our real problem is stopping the run, which usually DOES NOT INVOLVE BLITZING.

The problem IS NOT lack of blitzing. The problem is lack of well called blitzes of the right kind.

I may get laughed at for this statement, but I feel the Saints defense is only a couple players away from being very good. The DL and LB spots are killing them. Sullivan has been a wasted pick so far. When you look at guys like Norman Hand, or Grady Jackson, both would be major upgrades at the position. Of course, they are no longer with the team. This issue needs to get addressed during the offseason. Hodge is also a major weakness at LB. That is another spot that needs to be addressed during the offseason. The rest of the defense is basically okay, which brings up another issue. If there are only a couple spots that are bad, why do the Saints have so many issues with stopping opposing teams? Well, the answer is actually pretty simple, then again, maybe not so simple. Rick Venturi is going to take the fall for this. Is he really that bad, well, maybe yes, then again, maybe no. He does call the plays, so maybe he is not creative enough to cover the weeknesses of the defense. Maybe it is not him at all, maybe the position coaches are not getting it done. Maybe he is creative but Haz is not letting him adjust. Who knows. Bottom line is they play very poor defense most of the time. On paper, they should not be as bad as they are. Yes, we know what the dog likes to do with paper...

Matthew,

These are my views on our needs on defense:

1. A DT who is tough on the run and will command a double team.
2. A SLB.
3. A MLB (Courtney should play WLB, in my opinion)
4. A CB to play across from McKenzie.
5. A S (Only because eventually Bellamy will slow down).

That is half the defense.

In my opinion, we\'re set only at these positions:
1. Both DEs.
2. WLB, if Watson is moved there.
3. One CB, McKenzie IS what we\'ve been looking for.
4. One DT, I think Young can be a good DT, IF he gets help at the other DT.
5. NB, put Thomas, Craft, or Brown there, we\'re fine.
6. P, Berger is quite good.
