outlook on Edebali?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Just trying to get a feel if he has the ability to start or be an effective pass rusher? I liked what I saw last season, but some of you might have a more in depth view of his abilities...

Re: outlook on Edebali?

Above average motor. Intelligent player. Hard worker (what I've read)

Still raw. Doesn't look as effective in coverage.

Like to see him drop 10-12lbs and become a more fluid OLB.

Probably best a situational pass rusher.

Re: outlook on Edebali?

As already stated, I think he's a situational pass rusher in a rotation.

I like the guys high motor and effort, the thing I noticed about him though is he only seems to get close to the QB when the play breaks down and he's chasing, I've yet to see him beat an O-lineman off the ball and get to the QB.

In my opinion he needs to get better at pass rushing moves, still plenty of time though, Junior didn't start until his 4th season and was pretty decent.

Re: outlook on Edebali?

BC football is a retro style program. Kinda stuck in the 60s and these are typical the players they get. blue collar - hard working - smart kid. not exactly an ACC power house in recruiting but they do find some solid kids every year most school over look or just run out of scholar ships for. plus the academics at BC are bit like Stanford. Add in his high school ball was in Germany too. we might have a solid gem on our hands

give him a few years and enjoy the show as he development.

Maybe our own version of a future Rob Ninkovich? He might not be as strong as him, but thats what he reminds me of. Needs a lot of work, but he has the heart it seems. Good team player I would think.

Edibali will develop into a star this year. Few guys in the league hustle like that. He is obviously athletic with a quick first step. I think he and Jordan could be a tough pair of DEs if they were partnered with a stud nose-tackle this season.

To add on that thou. Good European youth teams are well comparable to high school teams in the ability to develop players. My club currently have kids at 1 FBS school, 1 FCS school, a D2 school, a couple JUCOs. Europe is a huge untapped resource.

I liked his high motor attitude last season, haven't seen that kind of heart on the Dline since 2009

Re: outlook on Edebali?

Our defense played 1,021 snaps... Edebali was on the field for 167 of them. He's raw and has quite a ways to go but with enough work he could turn into a quality rotational player.
