Why 7-9 in 2015 feels a lot better than 7-9 in 2014 for Saints

I feel the same way

At face value you look at the standings, you look at the record, and you see a team treading water in mediocrity. The record of 7-9 does speak for itself and you can give all the excuses for the reasons why the Saints got there you want, the bottom line is that for two straight seasons the result has been the same. And yet, at the risk of being “that guy” that distinguishes the two seasons from each other despite them looking the same, I’m going to do just that. At the end of 2014, I really did see 7-9 with a “glass half empty” approach. I knew a doomsday of sorts was coming. I even predicted a 6-10 season after watching the team in training camp at the Greenbrier. This time around, though, I see 7-9 as “glass half full”. The difference is partly how the season ended but also how the roster is set up for the future.

Feels good cause 2 of the 7 wins came against the Falcons.

I don't. There wasn't a team out there we couldn't have beat the last 2 years if we had a good D. I don't think we improve to much if the D don't.

Not much difference. I would argue that 2016 won't be much different either. Should we feel good next year too?

We sucked. Lucky to win 7.

We sucked most of the season, but I started to see improvement and the team did not give up. The firing of Rr will more than likely prove to be beneficial heading into next season

Call it poo-poo. Call it caca. Call it $#!*.
It smells the same and 7-9 stinks. Get it fixed.

I agree with this OP. (ooo. im getting all internetty. next thing, I'll have
a myspace)

That was, no matter how badly the Falcons suck, a fine way to end the season.
We were maximum suckage on week one, and so bad that, yeah, it was an accomplishment to win 7 games.

I'll feel better about 7-9, if we lock down Drew.

Hear hear! The team is a lot younger and with more potential than this time last year. 2007 we were 7-9, 2008 we were 8-8 and then BOOM 2009 we were 13-3 and won a Super bowl.

The NFL is such a world of parity that what might look like small changes to a roster might be what moves a team from 8-8 to 13-3.

Between those two seasons the Saints signed a bunch of players, only two really stood out, Greer and Sharper
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_N...eason#Signings

I believe that this years team is closer to be a double digit win team than many thinks.

I agree with Halloween. It's been 10 years since I felt we could win every game we played if we got a respectable showing from our defense. And we won many games without getting that. We don't need to play complimentary football on the defense. We don't need to perennially be one of the best on that side of the ball. We need to just be decent and I am seeing some pieces to get us there. Does it feel better? Not really.
