Re: Best Guard in the Draft

Joshua Garnett, G, Stanford
Height: 6-5. Weight: 325. Arm: 33.88. Hand: 9.88.
40 Time: 5.32.
Projected Round (2016): 2-3.
4/9/16: I sampled a variety of teams, and overall, Garnett came back the most as the top guard in the 2016 NFL Draft, thoguh it varied from franchise to franchise. On the whole, teams felt that this was a weak guard class and there wasn't much talent at the position.

Last season, Garnett blocked well for Stanford, being well-balanced in the ground game and with the passing attack. He is good at pulling and has nice technique for the NFL. Garnett has the potential to add strength and could be a difference-maker as a run blocker at the next level. He needs to build up his upper body, but he did well on the combine bench press, so it seems he has some natural strength to him. At the Senior Bowl, Garnett was decent. He was better at the combine with his impressive workout.

8/15/15: Garnett had a mixed 2014 season for Stanford. It was his first season as a starter, and his run blocking is ahead of his pass blocking. As a sophomore in 2013, he rotated into the game in the jumbo package. Garnett has good size to him.

I have always like the kid. How he fits the saints zone blocking scheme? I am not sure.

We may draft one in the 4th or 5th but the first 3 picks will be reserved for defense. DE, DT, CB or Safety

Re: Best Guard in the Draft

Not a big fan of Garnett, in fact, am hoping we don't mistake drafting him...

The guy I'm really like for us, and for how we use our guards, is NC State Joe Thuney...

Reminds me alot of Carl Nicks - a guard in a tackle's body; and he's very smart, adept player; very good with angles; he trusts the coaches and their schemes and leads his blocks with where defenders will be rather than where they are at the start of plays, effectively sealing them off and create pass protection walls and running lanes...

Just see alot of another Stanford alum, Jonathan Martin and that just makes me uneasy and not thinking he could be trusted...

He should go on to being a doctor now if that's his passion...

It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Those alligator arms could be a problem at the next level for Big Joe ...

I would be happy with him in the 2nd. Defense in the 1st & 3rd. Still have to find a #4 & #5 WR from some where.

Re: Best Guard in the Draft

We still need a true No. 1 or "x" receiver to replace Colston because Coleman isn't it...

If you have PFF, you should read their scouting report on Thuney as well as ACC Scout as well...

Meet Swedish-Born Lineman Sebastian Johansson Who Could Be The Steal of The 2016 Draft - American Football International

In the months leading up to his all-important Pro Day, Johansson trained at TEST Football Academy in Martinsville, New Jersey. There, he saw massive improvements in his lateral movement and explosiveness and learned to pay greater attention to diet and proper recovery. The hard work paid off, and Johansson turned heads at Marshall’s mid-March Pro Day. Measuring 6-foot-3 and 293 pounds, he recorded a 5.06 40-Yard Dash, a 32.5-inch Vertical Jump, a 9’5″ Broad Jump, a 7.27 3-Cone Drill, a 5.21 20-Yard Shuttle and 26 reps on the 225 Bench Test. According to 3SigmaAthlete.com, Johansson’s SPARQ score ranks fourth-highest among this year’s class of offensive lineman.

W.T. Sherman is my favorite General. After all he did order Atlanta to be burned to the ground.

All I can hope for is that we don't wait until late in the draft to pick a guard.
