By the way you can use both like pats but you need to scout up lower level FA that fit the system. Which the pats do better than any other team in the NFL. This is why so many FA of the Pats are bust else where, system guys. Talk about all the draft picks they use and cut all you want. All the players they refuse to pay and let go. The end up with one of the deepest teams anywhere. They know what they are doing

Payton will never get us to that status, not saying he's bad but no one is like the hoodie but everyone wish they were, Payton included.

Re: Saints GM Mickey Loomis values free agency over compensatory picks

The problem with all this is you have to be right when drafting. You have to get more right then you do wrong. You can have every #1 picks for 100 years in a row and if you pick Manzells and Leaf's. You got nothing really.

There is proof that compensary picks work the problem is that you team has to be a smart team. You got to know how to get them and how to use them. For the past 10 years the teams that get the most compensatory picks have won Super Bowls.

Why? They let the players who who demand big $$$. They are smart and confident they draft to replace that player with a way cheaper younger player.

So essentially Loomis is wrong!!!

What franchises are better at the draft? This article shows that New Orleans is ranked 12th over the past 20 years.

Legendary? Lousy? How (your team) have fared in the NFL draft

And how good have the Patriots been recently? Not very good at all. They are ranked 24th over the five drafts coming into last year. Yes, the Patriots have lots of picks, but most never crack the roster. They do their damage through free agency.

Ranking from 1-32 the NFL’s best teams at drafting

Very true however the Pats struck "gold" in the 2000 draft with Tom Brady (compensatory pick). I think getting drafted in the 6th round made him work even harder at his craft. 17 years later, GOAT...boy.
