Drew Brees calls Brandin Cooks trade “one of those unfortunate things”

The Saints decided earlier this month to move on from receiver Brandin Cooks, a first-round pick in 2014 who has developed into a quality player. On Friday, quarterback Drew Brees explained during a visit to PFT Live his reaction to the move.

“You know that was tough, because I love Brandin and not only is he a great teammate but he’s a great friend and obviously we were able to accomplish some great things together over the last three years,” Brees said. “I think it was just one of those unfortunate things that maybe kind of took on a life of its own too as the season progressed and then into the offseason. You know, there was so much speculation about his intentions and that kind of thing in regards to whether he wanted to be here or not he wanted to be here and I think a lot of that was kind of fostered by the media and that kind of thing. But at the end of the day I hope that he got what he wanted or got in to a good situation, which I think he did and obviously we got some draft picks out of it. So at the end of the day I just want what’s best for him, also want what’s best for us and hopefully that accomplished that.”

And then there's that unmentioned but that's even bigger than Warford's. Remember when Drew was begging for some D? I think he was more than willing to see Cooks go in exchange for some of that. Classy way to send him off though. Thanks for the post Smash.

Ginn plus Ramczyk equals more to our current roster at this point than Cooks. I loved Cooks, but offensive pieces have been fairly interchangeable the last decade.

If the revamped RB positions work out then Cooks will not be missed. Brees will have everything he needs for the mid range stuff, and the screen passing game should be back. This is where most of the damage is done, ability to hit Ginn on a bomb every now and then, good to go.

Cooks was a game breaker when given the opportunity but I'm not going to support someone who sends out cryptic tweets and cries to the media when he doesn't record a catch during a 28 point win. I don't care who you are, not one player is bigger than the team and Cooks got far too big for his boots.

Ben Watson proved the offense is interchangeable, all we heard all offseason is "how will we replace Graham," then a 37 year old Ben Watson made those questions disappear.

Hated to see Cooks go, but oh well...
As long as Brees is upright, Payton will give him options.
Offense will still be Top-5; if we can get the defense to Top-15 we're golden.

Drew made Cooks special, not vise versa. Next man up and Drew'll do the same for him.

He didn't produce when we forced the ball to him after he whined about his catches. I lost a ton of respect for him that game.
If you are going to whine then you had better produce! :bng:
