What do you guys think about this DE/OLB?

STRENGTHS

6'4", 264
34" arms

Already possesses NFL size and length, and has room on his frame for growth. Powerful punch and arm extension takes linemen into the backfield and allow him to hold up and split double-teams. Gets off the ball quite well, will challenge the upside shoulder of right tackles and can step inside to get into the B-gap as a counter move.

Flashes quick hands to move past tackles on his way to the quarterback or disengage to chase plays to his side. Can get low to swallow running backs coming into his area and stop quickly to rein in quarterbacks before they step out of the pocket. Feels the cut block an defeats it with his hands. Good hustle to the sideline and downfield to chase ballcarriers.

WEAKNESSES Best as a strong-side 4-3 end providing strength against the run and some pass rush, lacks short-area quickness to play standing up in the NFL. Runs high and stiff when dropping into coverage or trying to change directions quickly in the open field. Gets stuck on some man-up blocks, allowing running backs to run around him instead shedding to make a play.

Alex Okafor. Health has been his biggest problem, not talent.

He can be very disruptive, like you said tho... health has been an issue. Hopefully he can come in and make an impact right away and stay healthy.

It's about time we get lucky with one of these injured players .It would be a great boost to get a pass rusher on the cheap.

I think he's going to surprise people. Not to say we shouldn't draft a solid DE, but I think Alex will be a good addition.

I was close, I went straight to Cam Jordan's NFL.com write-up...

Cam's scouting analysis said he would be a very good 3-4 DE, but lack the skills to be a threat with sacks in a 4-3 front...

It even raised a red flag for getting into off-field trouble...

Danno's post reinforces one thing that I will say the Saints do well - identifying mid-level veteran talent and signing them to one year tryout contracts...

Where the Saints get into trouble is those long-term contracts with defensive players where they have no idea how they'll fare in a Saints scheme...

To answer Danno's question, this was as good a signing that the Saints could make in this down year free agency market...

And with a first or second round pick DE selection, he'll at the least be the ideal transition player; if he blossoms, he can be extended...

Still can't believe we let that guy start for a full year... so bad.

He played for the Skins last year and was signed by the Broncos in 2017.
