Was Payton smiling? He should be. His defense took a major step forward, pitching a shutout on D. And he got to see his daughter before the game. He had a great day...

Manti and Kamara are going to be beast this year. Manti had 7 tackles and we know what Kamara did to the 1st string defense of the Chargers. We had 8 sacks, I said 8 sacks and yes I'm talking about sacks! Our defense will be much improved and that has a lot to do with the improved play of the secondary which causes those sacks.

Yes, it was preseason.
Yes, preseason isn't always an indicator of regular season success.

But, as a former coach pointed out last week, individual performances certainly do matter. And based on what we saw Sunday night numerous players looked really good relative to the situation.

Speed, technique, assignment discipline, enthusiasm, cohesiveness, communication all looked better than we've seen in several years.

Those are the things that really matter in pre-season, and it looked like a marked improvement over years past.

In my humble opinion its a lot to be "excited" about.

Of course if we lose our top 5 LB's or CB's before game two, things could get ugly pretty fast

get me an OL to go against, add in a starting QB and then I might have more to go on.

So I will hold off the Kool Aid shots for now.

so far so good is as far as i am willing to go

I can respect that. I get what you are saying but come on..you gotta like the speed the front seven has displayed these first 2 games.

My old friend is excited about what happened, he's also seen more seasons than most and he knows we've got to continue to progress and carry it into the regular season for it to be legit...

He's been teased far more than most on this site and knows how ugly and fast we can fall back...
