A Seminole Story or Two...
Just for the heck of it....
Years ago the 'Noles were headed to the Fiesta Bowl for a huge game. My son, probably ten or eleven at the time, and I visited the last practice before the team flew out to Tempe the next day. Well, when practice was over all the players gathered around Coach Bowden and took a knee. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Wes and I looked at each other in anticipation. "Now men, this is the biggest game..." or "Win one for the Gipper"? Nope. Bowden took his notepad out and said, "Ok, I need a show of hands of how many of you are taking your gold clubs". It was great! The baseball team used to visit Arizona State quite often early in the season. The team practiced and worked out at a local high school field there between games. A local older gentleman was always there with cold water, Gatorade and such for the team. Just a nice old man who hooked up with the team as a fan somehow. On one of our last trips to Tempe, the team saw he wasn't around. They asked around to find out where he was and found out he was too sick, tired and old to come to the park.... Coach Martin loaded up the entire team on busses and went winding through his neighborhood to give him a personal visit at his house. 8) |
