LSU players weigh in on facing Alabama for BCS title
We kind of expected this because it was one of the biggest games during the season, and the nation wanted to see us play Alabama again, Tigers safety Brandon Taylor said. I kind of knew it because of the strength of our schedules and them playing us and we beating them by three points in overtime.
LSU safety Eric Reid said this matchup was to be expected. In my mind they are by far the No. 2 team in the country and the national championship is supposed to be No. 1 versus No. 2, Reid said. So I knew once we beat them that there was a chance that we were going to play them again. No surprises for Tigers | Sports | The Advocate |

Eric Reid is right.
Why is everyone else afraid of playing Alabama? |

...because they are a tough team. The likelihood of winning a National Championship would be much easier if LSU didn't have to go through Bama... again. It's tough to beat a team of that caliber twice in a season and everyone knows it. It would be hard to swallow if Bama beat LSU when it meant the most.
It's like... would you rather the Saints play the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Jacksonville Jaguars for the Superbowl? It's understandable. I don't think it's an issue of being "afraid" to face Bama... it's just why would we want to. LSU has everything to lose while Bama waltzes into the BCSNCG. Personally I don't care... I love our chances. |

I only have 1 question.
What if... Alabama beats LSU by 3 points...in OT? Who is #1? |

In college, the playoff system is one game...and this year it is between 2 teams that have already played. People would accept it a lot more if they had to come through a playoff system to end up playing each other. That's JMO, though. |

If Bama had won in Tuscaloosa I'd be all for an LSU/Bama rematch. I prefer to see the two best teams play. Its not LSU/Bama's fault that the two best teams in the NCAA had to play each other during the season. Someone had to lose. |

My only thing is that I am now and always have been in favor of a college football playoff system, and any time I get a chance or even think I have a chance of showing people how much better it would be, I take advantage of it. I have a lot of thoughts on this topic...playoff system, that is. One of the arguments over the years has been that the players would have to miss too much school, which is a bogus argument as far as I'm concerned. First of all...playing football is their main purpose of being at that school. I just call it like it is. Secondly...if you had a 16 team playoff system, only 8 would play extra games. The first round would be equal to playing a bowl week. So, after that week we have 8 teams, and then 4 teams would have to play 1 more game, and then 2 teams would play 1 more game. Personally, I have no problem with LSU/ALABAMA playing again either way. I can see where it might get confusing, but I won't lose any sleep over it no matter what happens. I just would feel a lot better about them playing again if they had to go through a bracket to get there...and there is little doubt in my mind that if they did things that way, it would end up with them playing, anyway, so that's why I'm not all that concerned. I have always heard and been told that the reason that it stays the way it is has something to do with money. If that's true, then to hell with that. WE WANT A COLLEGE PLAYOFF SYSTEM!!!!! rant over |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!
