Re: Is Chipper going to retire?
He's my age...well, he's 38 and I'm 41...not a natural but a 'learned' switch hitter. Not the best but a damn good defensive 3rd baseman, and when he's 'on' he's as hard an 'out' as there is in Baseball. Had a knack for the timely hit. My brother and I watched Chipper from his first year - I always said that's the kinda player I would want to be. Solid, and loyal to the franchise that gave him an opportunity. My wife hates him...thinks he arrogant. I have big-time respect for his talent, his ethic, and I have truly loved watching him play. It'll be a sad day for me when he hangs it up. The only other players I feel similarly about are Dale Murphy, Hank Arron, and Nolan Ryan. I'm not sure if Chipper rates as high as those guys to the 'general public', but I've got him there. He was born to play baseball.
