The Roman Empire did keep incredible records, that is what makes it so odd. There are plenty of recorded accounts of Pontius Pilate, but non of Jesus. And no one can find any record of nazareth either. Its kind of hard to lose a city.

In fact The book of Marc, the 1st stories of Jesus, could not have been written by him, they were written 150-300 years after Jesus death. Most scholars believe none of the books were actually written by the disciples.

First of all, I should say that none of the four canonical Gospels names its own author, none of them claim to be eywitness accounts or even to have spoken to eyewitness of Jesus. All are written in the third person and none of the authors tell us anything about themselves. All of the traditional ascriptions of authorship come from 2nd century tradition.

Dont get me wrong, I believe in God, this is just my historical side talking. As soon as someone says " I have faith" they should be excused from the room.
Faith has nothing to do with writing history based on facts, records, and hard archeological work. We would love to find something, we just haven't.
