In my 21yr old son's case, his employer is basically passing on any/all costs associated with the plan to the employees while cutting back on their hours in order to comply with other parts of the plan. All this while still paying SocSec/Medicare taxes to fund another healthcare plan that he undoubtedly will never be able to participate in because it will be bankrupt. It's a pretty big burden for a 21yr old just starting out who is healthy & really only wants catastrophic/emergency-type medical insurance that he can get get at a far more reasonable rate than he is being forced to pay. It's the "new American dream" for his generation he told me the other day ... "have a part-time job & get an apartment" ... even though he works full-time & gets the house after I'm gone, ![]() |
