Re: The 1970's
At the age of 5, I tried to run away from home by pedaling away in my Big Wheel. Fortunately, my oldest brother was on the scene and caught me about 4 houses down the sidewalk from my house.
Why was I running away from home? Because I got spanked for going beyond my 2 house travel limit on my Big Wheel. You see, to me such draconian rules was like living in the USSR. So the Big Wheel represents defiance and the renegade within me. |
Re: The 1970's
Oh yeah, we all built 'ramps', but how many of us got 'air' like that kid? I'm impressed,.

Re: The 1970's
I had that poster, my brothers friend drew a ring around the nipple. Had to take it down after that, Dad liked it my Mother did not. A 5 tire ramp and a sheet of flimsy plywood can cause a broken arm, just ask me and my Mr. America bike with the wide slick. The one with a left handle bar missing from the 5 tire ramp, but those days were some of my favorite.

Re: The 1970's
I had one of those Western Auto "Motorcycle" seats on my bike.
The ole' 5 tire plywood ramp was a bit too flimsy and shot me straight up in the air. Result was, the wind knocked out of me and "Motorcycle seat" was broke off, and my friends standing over me saying, "Do it again!" I rode that bike without a seat for the rest of that summer. |

The 70's!
I thought all you had then was a cup and ball or a stick. Thank heavens for the 80's and SEGA |
Re: The 1970's
There was a TV show that came on; and for the life of me I can't remember the name of it but maybe some of y'all can help me. I will describe it.
It was made by the same people who made the Godzilla movie. It had a lot of actors from Japan in it but the main characters were Americans. There was a main "badguy that was done in horrible make up. But it used to scare the crap out of me. Aired around 77-79. There was no video games. Kids had to use a wierd thing called imagination. All of the kids in my neighborhood would put on our dads old Vietnam fatigue jackets and pretend we were on patrols walking through the woods, creeks and swamps. BB Gun wars. (Would never happen this day an age) Dirt clod wars with "The Super Slingshot" Damn, no wonder I ending up joining the Army. All we ever played was "War" games. I do remember when my dad brought home the ATARI system. me and my brother weren't aloud to even look at it for the first few months. |
Re: The 1970's
Ah but we DID have video games in the 70s. 1977 anyone?
http://static.giantbomb.com/uploads/...-atari2600.jpg I remember getting mine for Christmas, and I was 8 years old, and I remember thinking, what the heck is THIS thing? I blew it off and moved on to my planet of the apes toys... ...until my Uncle hooked it up and we spent the rest of the night playing it. And really, the VIC 20 came out in 1980, so that's kinda like the 70s - close enough for government work I mean... |
Re: The 1970's
I remember the PONG game console. I remember finding ours in the "Junk" closet and asking my dad, "What the heck is this thing used for?" We ended up playing it into the wee hours of the morning.

Re: The 1970's
Too many to quote on my phone...
1. I played outside. If it rained we played outside under cardboard, when the rain stopped we played in the ditch. 2. Megalon? 3. The Atari 2600 - ohhhh the memories. 4. 1977-1978 when Smokey and the Bandit replaced cowboys and Indians. |

That was me in the late 70's early 80's (not that specific photo). Its also why I've had 3 ACL surgeries and can tell when its gonna rain 2 or 3 days in advance. I may actually find some old photos and scan/post them. Just don't make fun of me because I look like Juan Epstien from Welcome Back Kotter. |

Re: The 1970's
I had a pair of those roller skates with lights underneath. Looked pretty cool at the rink. LOL
Does that count? |

Re: The 1970's
I know. I'm so ashamed. There was a really bad movie that had some guy, the star, who wore black roller skates with neon yellow laces and lights under them. I don't know. I grew out of it...and I can at least say I wasn't the only one. Maybe it was even the 80's by then, I can't remember, but everybody who was anybody had skates like that at the rink. I swear it.
LOL |

I stuck with what worked for me so I didn't change a whole lot. Several sets of basically the same products... PP decks, Independent trucks, Bones and Kryptonic wheels (german bearings of course). Ahhh the memories. That was a really fun period of my life. I still have dreams of street skating and half-pipe shredding. Do you ever have dreams about it? Skateboarding and BMX!!! Thats heaven!!! |
