Re: Pete Rose

Truly one of the "greats" ... I waffle on this quite a bit ... sometimes "yeah", sometimes "nah" ... it's a hard one to get a handle on, .

Re: Pete Rose

I say yes, he served his time for betting on his own team. Certainly not the only "cheater" in MLB, come on!

Re: Pete Rose

People argue Cobb was the greatest player ever and from what I read he was also one of the worst people ever to live. Babe Ruth weighed 300 lbs, ate and drank to excess and chased anything walking with two legs. Mantle killed himself by drinking. What do they all have in common: they are in Hall of Fame. Boy baseball makes betting on your team to WIN look like Rose was the ring leader for a mob branch. Its not like he was fixing the outcome of games, I'm almost sure he lost more money than he won when betting

Re: Pete Rose

All I know is my dad told me Pete Rose was the greatest baseball player he ever remembers watching as a kid. IMO its pretty petty and stupid not to have your all time hits record holder not in your hall of fame since he did openly apologize

Re: Pete Rose

Nothing he may have done off the field had a single thing to do with how amazing he was on it.

Hey man, nobody motored out there like "Charlie Hustle", ... the guy did everything except pitch/catch and did it all at 200%. I think he even ran out a base-on-balls (walk) or two, but that just might be urban legend material, though it seems like I remember him doing that ... he was that kind of player.
