First Round Friday is over, and while (1) Union over (4) Michigan State in the East Regional came as no surprise ... (14) Cornell over (2) Michigan in a Midwest regional O/T game was a bit of a shocker ... guess it's up to Ferris State to defend the state's honor ... <sigh> ... so much for a highly anticipated Boston College/Michigan Wolverines final.

The final is in Tampa Bay. Steve Yzerman is the GM for Tampa Bay. I'm sure he will be rooting for the Michigan natives. Allegedly, he is the one who called up Pat Nagle from Ferris last year

Too bad it is all politics. To be honest, Western Michigan should have been higher than a 4 seed, and Michigan State should have never been in it at all

IDK, they probably figured Western winning the Mason Cup was just a fluke ... but yeah, there's always politics involved in college sports. MSU got their seed based on past appearances and fan recognition, but they showed their ass against Union, so it evens out.

Ferris vs Union is a good matchup ... the prospect of having to face either Boston College or Minnesota in the finals is a little unnerving though.

Yeah, except Minnesota-Duluth got beat by Boston College in the second round, so you'll have to settle for Minnesota ... if they can get past BC. Two nice semi matchups, I'm taking Boston over Minnesota and Ferris over Union (for the upset) ... for the BC/Ferris finale, my heart is with Ferris but my wallet will be with BC, .

I guess I thought it was Minnesota-Deluth in the other side. I guess not. We will fight them in a few years in the WCHA I think lol. To be honest, I wouldn't think it that much of an upset. We were ranked #1 in the nation until we lost to Western. We lost to Western because we rested our starters. We lost to Bowling Green, not because their team was better (by the shot clock, it wasn't even close), but because their goalie was on fire. But that is hockey. I think we can have this. I'm so superstitious right now lol

Ferris is going over to the WCHA? Speaking of hot goalies, Union has that Grosenick kid, Hoby Baker finalist, eh? GAA of 1.66 and a save percentage of .936 (plus he maintains a 3.8 GPA and is on the Dean's List). That's why I'm referring to it as an upset, nobody's going to believe it when Ferris wins that one, except us Michigan boys.

I heard Hunwick (Michigan's goalie) got called up to back up Columbus' goalie vs Detroit in their upcoming game.

Nelson was in the running for Hobey Baker, along with Billins, but its a small time school; they had no chance

Nelson is leaving after this year, wouldn't be surprised to see Billins, Johnston, and Bonus in the NHL one day. Redmond is almost there, and Nagle is in a junior league for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Next year, we have one of our stars back (Matthew Kirzinger) and a hot new goalie. He will be a sophomore (CJ Motte)

Technically, my avatar is incorrect as far as the logo goes. Our AD made us get rid of the stick in the Bulldog's mouth. Had to take it off of the center-ice logo as well. I have yet to hear about a single person who likes the change (or prefers it)
